When, where and how did the band
come together : 2000, in our hometown, through local
messageboards over the passion for creating the same style of music
Best description of your sound to
someone who is yet to hear you would be... All of
the members came from different backgrounds and brought a unique
influence that blended metalcore, punk and emo together. A lot of
the bands that influenced were from the late 90s and early 2000s.
Someone who isn't too familiar with
your stuff, which release would you suggest they start with?
Discovering the Waterfront (our 2nd LP), released 2005
What is your latest release, give
it a plug, tell us about it. Arrivals & Departures,
recorded and released in July 2007, Produced by Mark Trombino. This
was a more-focused effort with a lot of continuity through the concepts.
This release explored more flexibility with our genre while maintaining
our established sound. Overall, its a positive leap forward from
our previous release.
Favourite song to play live.. and
why? Smile in Your Sleep – it always receives one
of the best reactions, it's up beat and all of the parts are really
fun to play!
If you could go back in time and
write any one song.. what would it be.. Probably
that Soulja Boy song.. because didn't that make a lot of money?
Just kidding, I don't even know.
Most memorable moment / best achievement
with the band to date would be... There are so many
things that once seemed unattainable, but were achieved over time.
The fact that we have toured in 19 countries and played well over
a 1000 shows is pretty remarkable. Our 1000th show was celebrated
in Paris, a pretty cool place for that to happen. In addition to
that, we received a Canadian Juno nomination in 2006 which was a
huge honor for us.
Have you toured with any of the Soundwave
bands before? If so, give us a quick story.. Tons
of them! We go way back with a bunch of those bands and have spent
quite a decent amount of time together. I'd say we've played shows
with almost a 1/3 of the bands on the line-up. We also go way back
with Bayside and Moneen. It's a great line-up and we're honored
to be a part of it.
Which bands on the Soundwave lineup
are you most likely to be found partying with after the show? We're
currently on the road in the US with Chiodos so we'll probably be
catching up with them down there, plus our Canadian brothers in
Moneen and Billy Talent.
Who in your band is the party animal?
Give us a quick story on antics of the past.. Josh
(our guitar player). While recording the last album, he got so wasted
that he decided to walk into the kitchen of our apartment and pee
in the oven (as if it were the toilet). He didn't remember any of
this and Neil had to discover it the following morning! In addition
to that, we recently toured Japan, and Josh found himself face down
in an alley after an interesting night at the Karaoke bar haha.
You have been to Australia before...
What's the memory most stuck in your mind... Just
how beautiful of a country it truly is. It's our favorite place
in the world to visit – we love the people, the cities, the culture,
everything. It has such a great mix of what the rest of the world
shares with it's own spin on it. We always find touring Australia
is half tour, half vacation for us!
Thing you are most looking forward
to about coming to Australia this summer? Escaping
the Canadian winter and retreating to the Australian beaches!
Is there anything you "just have
to do" while you are in Australia? We have to eat
some Tim Tams! And maybe feed some kangaroos.
If the rider fairy was to grant you
one wish, what would be awaiting you backstage at the festival..
An Australian citizenship. haha
You should catch us when we play
Soundwave because.. we're going to be fresh out
of the recording studio, and will be playing new songs!
Any Final words...
Silverstein loves Australia! New album out in Spring 2009. See you
in the new year. |
