Name
: Jake Turner
Band : Say Anything

Hometown : Los Angeles,
CA
When, where and how did the band come
together : The band started back in 2001 with Max
and Coby jamming. Then became a full band a couple years ago not
too long after ...Is A Real Boy was released. Alex met Max and Coby
while tour with them on the Absolutepunk.net tour in his band Lances
Hero. When Lances Hero broke up.. Max and Coby asked him to join
Say Anything. Not to long after that myself and my brother, Jeff,
had a band that broke up. I randomly got a phone call from Max asking
to join SA. Not long after my brother joined. Max, Coby, and Alex
met Parker at our manager's wedding. Parker had played in JamisonParker
and they had just broken up so they asked him to be in the band.
So pretty much 4 out of 6 of Say Anything came from defunct bands!
ha ha. But that's how we got to where we are today. You always have
to learn mistakes and go through hard times before you get to the
right place.
Best description of your sound to
someone who is yet to hear you would be... I always
say if Foo Fighters, Queen, and Saves The Day had a baby it would
be Say Anything.
Someone who isn't too familiar with
your stuff, which release would you suggest they start with?
Well.. I would recommend both. Just listen to them in order. ...Is
A Real Boy first... then ...In Defense Of The Genre second...
What is your latest release, give
it a plug, tell us about it. Our newest record is
called ...In Defense of the Genre... It's a 27 song, double disc,
record. Yes sounds crazy, but it has 21 guest vocals ranging from
Hayley Williams of Paramore, to Pete Yorn, to Trevor Keith of Face
to Face, to Gerard Way of My Chemical Romance, to Matt Skiba of
Alkaline Trio... I could keep going.. but you will have to listen
for the rest.
Favourite song to play live.. and
why? On of my favourite songs to play live is Belt.
It's just a song that really gets my energy up and gets me pumped
for the whole set. Plus its a huge crowd interaction song!
If you could go back in time and
write any one song.. what would it be.. Bohemian
Rhapsody because it's such and insane, interesting, intelligent
song!
Most memorable moment / best achievement
with the band to date would be... When we won our
MTVU Woodie. It was soo exciting and such a memorable moment!
Have you toured with any of the Soundwave
bands before? If so, give us a quick story.. Yes
tons! It's called Warped Tour or shall I call it Drunk Tour. ha
hah... Soo many of them. Every Time I Die, Anberlin, blah blah blah...
We also have done co-headlining tours with Saves The Day and HelloGoodbye.
Which bands on the Soundwave lineup
are you most likely to be found partying with after the show?
Us... huh? did I say that.. hahah. I'd say probably Saves The Day
and Every Time I Die even though two of them are straight edge.
Keith and Jordan can hang for 4 dudes easily. ha ha!
Who in your band is the party animal?
Give us a quick story on antics of the past.. Well
we call it STAGE RIGHT... Parker and I. We are the party animals
usually. We have a couple of sayings which have became well know
by everyone... the most popular is "living the dream"
where we make our on "dream juice" which I can't reveal
the ingredients. Sorry!!
You haven't been to Australia before...
What have you been told to expect by fans / other bands etc... I
have not! But I have heard it's soo amazing and has the hottest
girls ever! ha ha and that the fans are amazing! the most insane
crowds!
Thing you are most looking forward
to about coming to Australia this summer? Playing
to new faces!! and making new friends with bands and fans.
Is there anything you "just
have to do" while you are in Australia? Hold
a koala bear!
If the rider fairy was to grant you
one wish, what would be awaiting you backstage at the festival..
A wonderful bottle of Australian red wine.
You should catch us when we play Soundwave
because.. We love to have a good time and I can
promise you will too!
Any Final words...
LIVE THE DREAM!
