When, where and how did the band come together.
The band in my mind is still four years old, but at the same time
I think I am still 18. Far from the truth. The band was formed in
April of 1999. We have had members come and go. The band was formed
by myself (Kenny Bridges) and Chris the hippy Hughes. We have had
a couple bass players before we found our man Erik Hughes (might
be, might not be hippy's brother) As well Steve Nunarro our current
drummer has just joined in the last year. I would not suggest to
anyone that changing band members is a great idea, but sometimes
it needs to happen.
Best description of your sound to someone who is yet to
hear you would be... Aggressive Melodic Pop. But not all
that Poppy with a side of wanting to destroy the world from the
inside out.
Someone who isn't too familiar with your stuff, which release
would you suggest they start with? Tough one. The last
full length The Red Tree is a pretty safe place to start. Every
record sounds like moneen, yet also sound very different from each
other. Just the way it should be.
What is your latest release, give it a plug, tell us about
it. Already did.
Favourite song to play live.. and why? Sometimes
we really like playing songs like “don’t ever tell Locke
what he cant do” because it is fun to let out all that energy.
But other times we would rather play some of our more quiet spacey
songs. I either like the songs best that people want to break things
to…or cry to.
If you could go back in time and write any one song.. what
would it be.. Anything off of Pet sounds by the Beach
Boys.
Most memorable moment / best achievement with the band to
date would be... Just did a very DIY tour of Germany. Played
little punk houses and basement clubs. We did the whole tour driving
ourselves. That is something to be proud of. The fact we did not
die on the autobahn amazes me enough that anything else is just
gravy on top.
Have you toured with any of the Soundwave bands before?
If so, give us a quick story.. We have been lucky enough
to tour with a bunch of them. A couple that we have shared some
special times with would be SAVES THE DAY, FACE TO FACE and BILLY
TALENT. I think SAVES THE DAY might be a band we have done the most
shows with out of any. We have done 2 very VERY long tours together.
We once put on a talent show during their set. I am sure they did
not really think it was funny at the time…well to think of
it now, they still probably don’t think it is very funny.
We have had some really great times with our fellow Canadian brothers
in BT as well. It is nice to be surrounded by bands that make you
want to push yourself harder and really create art.
Which bands on the Soundwave line-up are you most likely
to be found partying with after the show? Who says we party?
Partying to us is getting a Frisbee or a handball and whipping it
at each other.
Who in your band is the party animal? Give us a quick story
on antics of the past.. Hippy has been known to eat people.
You've been to Australia before... What's the memory most
stuck in your mind... The first time we went over to Australia
we went with some really good friends ALEXISONFIRE. Everyone says
this, but we spent a lot of time at shows just getting to know people
and made some really good friends. I find it hard to think of another
country with nicer people.
Thing you are most looking forward to about coming to Australia
this summer? Being in Australia Period. I hope it is really
hot as well. REALLY HOT. FACE MELTING HOT.
Is there anything you "just have to do" while
you are in Australia? Capture a small Koala and smuggle
him home.
If the rider fairy was to grant you one wish, what would
be awaiting you backstage at the festival.. A giant field
to play Frisbee in. That and an unlimited supply of Ginseng and
honey Arizona Ice Tea
You should catch us when we play Soundwave because..
We break our bodies sometimes when we play.
