When, where and how did the band
come together
We met in Chicago about 4 years ago while we were all in 2 different
bands. both bands shared a manager and neither band was fulfilling
and our manager wasn't great. so the more we hung out the more obvious
it became that we had to scrap the bands, ditch the manager and
start over. we set a few guidelines early on such as determining
to never let outside influences affect the music we were writing
and that honesty and passion were our biggest assets.
Best description of your sound to
someone who is yet to hear you would be...
we think of ourselves as a modern rock band with slight punk undertones.
we use a lot of electronics and are heavily influenced by bands
like nine inch nails, smashing pumpkins, muse, jimmy eat world and
billy talent
Someone who isn't too familiar with
your stuff, which release would you suggest they start with
we've only had one record so far called "from them through us to
you" but we're currently recording our 2nd and it's definitely a
huge progression musically
What is your latest release, give
it a plug, tell us about it.
From Them Through Us To you out on Roadrunner Records. Its an honest,
heavier rock record with some punk and electronic elements. we're
super proud of it as our first record and have been gifted the opportunity
to tour the world, meet millions of people and get back into the
studio to record our follow up with producer David Bendeth. our
band is based around a story we created and the first record set
up the characters and situations in a fictitious town called Madina
Lake.
Favourite song to play live.. and
why?
probably Adalia or House of Cards based on the crowd support and
familiarity with those tracks. they both have a raw, erratic quality
and mean a lot to our band.
If you could go back in time and
write any one song.. what would it be..
probably Rage Against the Machine's "killing in the name of"
Most memorable moment / best achievement
with the band to date would be...
winning Kerrang!s "best international newcomer award" in 2007. The
UK has been amazing to us and we're lucky to be able to tour there
quite a bit. It is a country with more passion than any other which
we experienced at 2008's Download Festival. we had a million equipment
problems (no bass the entire set!) and played to 55K people! They
were INSANE!
Have you toured with any of the Soundwave
bands before? If so, give us a quick story..
yeah we toured with Red Jumpsuit, Anberlin, The Audition, Alesana,
etc. and we've done a bunch of one-off shows with several other
bands. The Audition is from Chicago and became pretty close friends.
they party, we party. we broke down on the RJSA tour and they came
to the rescue fitting 13 of us in their van and had one of hell
of a ride lol.
Which bands on the Soundwave lineup
are you most likely to be found partying with after the show?
The Audition. and NIN and Billy Talent are 2 of our all time favorite
bands so if we can kiss their asses enough, hopefully we can party
with them too ha
Who in your band is the party animal?
Give us a quick story on antics of the past..
hmmm probably me or jeezy (our drummer). we went to a party once
in Orlando at a former Backstreet Boys house and after drinks, hot
tubs, and millions of half naked people - jeezy woke up wearing
another dude's clothes. he's not gay and has no idea what happened.
and that's just one story that we can actually tell lol.
You have been to Australia before,
what's the memory most stuck in your mind...
Yes, last year's Soundwave and it was the best tine of our lives.
we accidentally put shit in a trash can with a bunch of water and
dumped it into My American Hearts hotel room. oh you mean like show
wise? lol. Melbourne was out of control. from experience we know
that Australians are the coolest, most laid back, good vibes, party
animals. so we can't wait to get back to that!
Thing you are most looking forward
to about coming to Australia this summer?
Bondi Beach? not sure if that's the right name but holy shit that
was fun. we also did some race boat tour of sydney harbour that
was amazing! Oh and we played Aussie Rules Football with Spider
from The Swans!
Is there anything you "just have
to do" while you are in Australia?
Bondi Beach!
If the rider fairy was to grant you
one wish, what would be awaiting you backstage at the festival..
Claire from "Lost"!
You should catch us when we play
Soundwave because..
because we try real hard, because we care about you, because ..
if you don't how will you know where everyone's gonna hang out after
the festival? ha
Any Final words...
yeah thanks so much for having us back, not to be cliche but seriously
your country is the most beautiful and the coolest we've been to
and you all know how to live right! see you guys soon. |
