When, where and how did the band come
together? We had all been in several bands in the
central florida area and finally formed anberlin in 2002.
Best description of your sound to
someone who is yet to hear you would be... kick
awesome.... kidding. i think it would be a new form of music called
indie-new wave-rock or 'inwayrock' or 'wavin rock'
Someone who isn't too familiar with
your stuff, which release would you suggest they start with?
i think that anberlin is one of those bands that you could jump
in at any point. we have not changed styles drastically, but the
newer the record the more musically talented and lyrically intense
the record is. try 'cities'.
What is your latest release, give
it a plug, tell us about it. the CD that just came
out is called NEW SURRENDER off the US label Universal Republic.
you can listen to it on our myspace, or itunes, or anywhere CD's
are sold... how is that for a plug?
Favourite song to play live.. and
why? on this tour its either breaking, haight street,
or disappear because those songs are so new for us.
If you could go back in time and write
any one song.. what would it be... i would love
to have written 'happy birthday'. the royalties on that one song
alone has to be more money than i could make in a lifetime in anberlin!
Most memorable moment / best achievement
with the band to date would be... the day we quit
our day jobs and headed out on the road. its not about the sound
scan, the number of tickets or T-shirts sold, its about getting
out there and doing what you love.
Have you toured with any of the Soundwave
bands before? If so, give us a quick story.. a few.
chiodos, the early november, say anything, bayside, etc. mostly
on warped tour. one incredible story for me is when i got to sing
with say anything on warped tour because max was sick. it was incredible
and something i will never forget.
Which bands on the Soundwave lineup
are you most likely to be found partying with after the show?
i would love to hang out with trent reznor but who wouldn't!?!?!?!!
prob our old friends from warped tour, and i KNOW deon (our bass
player) is going to stalk face to face.
Who in your band is the party animal?
Give us a quick story on antics of the past.. christian.
that guy can make best friends with a brick wall... and then get
that brick wall to buy him a drink!
You have been to Australia before...
What's the memory most stuck in your mind... well
besides insanity at every show! i think the fans stick out the most,
even on our first tour almost all the shows were sold out, and we
haven't stopped going since. (even wrote a song called 'adelaide'!)
Is there anything you "just have to
do" while you are in Australia? take a koala home.
in my suitcase.
If the rider fairy was to grant you
one wish, what would be awaiting you backstage at the festival..
someone accidentally marked the NIN lighting rig as 'ANBERLIN' and
we got to use it. that show is the best in the entire world!!!!
