When, where and how did the band come
together : After The Early November ended I continued
making music with this project.
Best description of your sound to
someone who is yet to hear you would be... I guess
I’d say it’s rock, some soft some a little harder, with
a message in there sometimes.
Someone who isn't too familiar with
your stuff, which release would you suggest they start with?
I actually don’t have an official release out yet with this
project, but there will be a record out this March. For now I have
a free EP called The Secret Wars, so definitely start by downloading
that at Fuse.tv.
What is your latest release, give
it a plug, tell us about it. I just released a
cover of the song “Bittersweet Symphony” that I put
together with a bunch of my friends from different bands (Mark Hoppus,
Matt Thiessen from Relient K, Craig Owens from Chiodos, Alex Gaskarth
from All Time Low, Kenny Vasoli from The Starting Line / Person
L, Bryce Avery from The Rocket Summer, Aaron Marsh from Copeland,
and Duane Okun from Socratic) on Itunes to benefit VH1 Save the
Music.
Favourite song to play live.. and
why? I like playing the new songs that will be on
the upcoming release, especially a song called “Bring Back
Love” because we get the crowd involved and everyone acts
like crazy hippies.
If you could go back in time and
write any one song.. what would it be.. I wish I
wrote one of the classic Christmas songs like I’m Dreaming
of a White Christmas. That would be cool.
Most memorable moment / best achievement
with the band to date would be... I’d have
to say releasing this Bittersweet Symphony cover and being able
to work with all the artists involved and also help a good cause
feels really great.
Have you toured with any of the Soundwave
bands before? If so, give us a quick story.. We
just got off a tour with Hellogoodbye and it was a lot of fun. We’ve
been friends with them for a long time and Joe and I used to be
in The Early November together so it was nice to just be around
friends every day. I’ve toured with a lot of the bands on
Soundwave with my old band including Less than Jake, Anberlin, New
Found Glory, Saves the Day, Finch, Chiodos, and Silverstein so it
will be good to see everyone in those bands again.
Which bands on the Soundwave lineup
are you most likely to be found partying with after the show?
I’ll probably hang out with a lot of the bands I’ve
toured with in the past, but I’m not a huge partier. I’m
kind of an old man now.
Who in your band is the party animal?
Give us a quick story on antics of the past.. Well
I’m playing Soundwave acoustic so it’ll just be me,
but when we do play full band we have Sergio, who was also in my
old band, on bass. He used to be a party animal, but he’s
toned it down a bit now that we’re older. I don’t even
know where to begin with his past stories, he was always entertaining
and he still has a good time and provides us with lots of stories.
You haven't
been to Australia before... What have you been told to expect by
fans / other bands etc...
The bands I’ve talked to have said it’s their favorite
place to tour, so I’m really looking forward to it.
Thing you are most looking forward
to about coming to Australia this summer? Mostly
exploring the different cities and having a few days to vacation
at the beach after the shows.
Is there anything you "just have
to do" while you are in Australia? Swimming
in the Indian Ocean is on my list.
If the rider fairy was to grant you
one wish, what would be awaiting you backstage at the festival..
A pasta dinner. I’d be pretty happy about
Cool Ranch Doritos too.
You should catch us when we play Soundwave
because.. I haven’t played The Early November
songs in a while, but since that band never went to Australia I’m
going to break out the oldies. Also, you’ll get a good preview
of the new record right before it comes out. It’ll be fun!
