THE RABBLE - THE BATTLE'S ALMOST OVER
[CRUSADE RECORDS] ALBUM INSTORES NOW

The name of our album is:
The Battle’s Almost Over

How did the name come about? ‘The Battle’s Almost Over’ was named after the title track: ‘The Battle...’ We are a band with a message... We’re not just here to score chicks, drink piss and take drugs like your average rock-star with only half a brain... We’re a band on the road to spread a message! A plan for hope through perseverance - a suggestion of unity! We do so playing a unique form of rebel Rock ‘n Roll so the title is simply outlining where we stand...

It will be released on: 'The Battle’s Almost Over’ was released throughout Australia and New Zealand officially by Crusade Records on February 28th, ’09.

We recorded it at: The drums for the album were recorded at New Zealand’s premier York St studio’s. They have an amazing room sound and we like our drum sound to be like a smack in the guts! However, the rest of the album was laid down by Chazz Rabble at our own home studio ‘Number 8 Wire’ and then from there the album was mixed in Boston, Massachusetts, by Jim Siegel (Dropkick Murphy’s, The Unseen).

Tell us a bit about the studio and why you chose to record there: We chose to do the most part of the recording at Number 8 Wire Recording Studio simply because we can capture the energy in a relaxed and comfortable environment. We chose Jim Siegel in Boston to mix the album because he has done some of our favourite albums and is a really talented guy with the know how for great Punk Rock records!

Tell us a bit about the engineer/producer and tell us why you chose to record with them:
We decided to keep our sound very in-house because we are all about doing as much as we can ourselves. That way we have 100% creative control over our music.

Tell us about the writing/pre-production process, how long did it take and how did you go about it?
Our writing process was simple. Get together, write music that made us come alive and make history. A few of the tracks that made it to the end result were older ones that we had demos from years ago of – but this time we simply gave them justice!

How long did it take to record?
It took us around a month to have the album recorded, mixed and mastered.

Tell us a bit about the recording process the band used:
The recording process started at York St Studios in Auckland city... We spent a solid week from 10 until midnight laying down the drum tracks. It was really hard work... After that, the rest of the tracks were laid down very organically at our old home studio and practice space on the Hibiscus Coast in Auckland. From there the raw mix was sent by external hardrive to the United States, where Jim Siegel left his unmistakable mark on the album. When he would finish a track he would e-mail them back to us and we would basically sit there with out jaws open and listen for changes. It was a very natural album and I think we really nailed it...

Gear wise, was there anything outside your usual live equipment used?
There were a few instruments thrown into the mix to provide the diversity and range that the ‘Rabble’ meddles with. With the help of the ‘Auckland Pipe Band’ we threw in a celtic mix with some Bagpipes and Side Drums. Chazz showed amazing talent and played Double Bass, Mandolin and Harpsichord also. There are a few tracks that sound kind of like Johnny Cash at a Sex Pistols concert. We are a very experimental band. We aren’t afraid to fuck around with genre’s that we aren’t completely familiar with.

Any memorable moments during the process that stood out?
The most memorable moment of the whole album was getting Mark of Boston’s The Unseen to feature on ‘This World is Dead’ for the album and then if that wasn’t enough; we flew him over to New Zealand to make a video for the song (which can be seen as well as others digitally enhanced for your PC/Mac on the disc.) There were a few glitches in the mix – because we were trying to send massive Pro-tools files all the way to the States, it proved difficult to communicate with Jim and have everything flowing with our schedule... So nothing, too big to complain about; the album came about with ease to the most part. It showed how strong a unit we really are I think!

Who took care of the artwork and why did you choose to use them?
We went with Barney Bewick of Indium Designs. We had seen some work he had done with Muse and the likes and also heard he was working back in New Zealand after doing the hard yards overseas and felt we had to do the music justice with some outstanding art. He did an amazing job and the gatefold cover along with the poster and booklet looks fantastic. Really professional!

Now that it's ready for release, what can we expect from the final Package?
This will be one of the best releases of ’09... Since we have Crusade on board now to fully release the album (we have sold copies throughout ’08 at our live gigs) I hope it will get out to as many people as it should! The music is our best, 16 tracks of well-thought out and inspired Punk Rock anthems. There is diversity on the album, so you’re getting a unique sound to blast through your speakers! With mixing by Jim Siegel it sounds totally killer and the artwork is beautiful... Not only that but the package comes with a free double-sided poster; a full colour booklet and all of our music videos digitally enhanced on to the disc for your computer.

Do you have a favourite track on the album?
This album is my favourite, I can’t narrow it down to one track because it’s just too damn good... Even if I have to sound like I’m blowing my own trumpet I will, because ‘The Battle’s Almost Over’ kicks fuckin’ arse!

How would you compare the album to previous releases?
It’s another step up; one more notch to The Rabble’s ever-expanding belt. It has that unmistakable ‘Rabbletised’ stamp on it, but it leaves the listener with a feeling of natural progression music-wise; but without changing our roots. It’s a killer...
