![]() STATIC X - CULT OF STATIC [WARNER MUSIC] NEW ALBUM AVAILABLE INSTORES NOW - OR BUY A COPY OF THE LIMITED SPECIAL EDITION ONLINE FROM PLAY4ME.COM.AU [HERE] The name of our album is “Cult Of Static” How did the name come about? The name is a tribute to all our loyal fans. It will be released on March 27th on Warner Bros. Records. We recorded it at... Most of it was recorded at my house. Tell us a bit about the studio and why you chose to record there... I converted my guest house to a studio, it’s small but has everything we needed. I loved the convenience of working whenever i wanted to and i hate having to drive to some other studio everyday. We recorded it with... Pro-Tools. Tell us a bit about the engineer / producer and why you chose to record with them... John Travis co-produced and engineered. We chose him because he tells great stories... and he’s very talented too. Tell us about the writing / pre-production process, how long did it take and how did you go about it? I wrote everything at home between January and July 2008. I recorded some decent demos of everything and gave those to the rest of the band so they could work on their parts. We did two weeks of full band rehearsals before we started recording. It took us... 3 months to record it. Tell us a bit about the recording process the band used. We always start by using the programming in my Akai sampler as the frame work for the recording. I recorded some scratch guitars and vocals for Nick to play drums to. After the drums are done, guitars are next, then bass. Guitar solos and vocals go down at the end. I can only sing for a couple hours a day and Koichi can only shred for so long as well, so the last days are split finishing vocals and guitar solos. Gear wise, was there anything outside your usual live equipment used? Anything goes in the studio. I used an ESP Baritone guitar, a Marshall head and a Rivera head for the rhythm sound. Koichi used guitar rig on his Macbook for his solos. John Travis brought in a bunch of old compressors for the vocals. Any memorable moments during the process that stood out? We sure had a good time recording the cover songs that are being used for bonus tracks. We picked a bunch of 80’s metal songs and didn’t take it very seriously. Who took care of the artwork and why you chose to use them? Paul Brown did the cover and the layout, we’ve worked with him in the past and he’s done a tonne of great work for other bands as well. Nelly Recchia did the body painting and photography of my wife Tera for the booklet. Nelly’s art set the tone for the rest of the package. Now that it's ready for release, what can we expect from the final package? It’s a great record top to bottom. It’s got heavy crazy moments and tripped out trance moments. Do you have a favourite track on the album? Tera-fied, the first song i wrote for this record. It’s about my wife. Very hypnotic. How would you compare the album to your previous recordings? My favorite body of work ever. It has the raw heaviness of “cannibal” and “wisconsin death trip,” but with more programming and layers like “machine.”
