RUN! HIDE! - CROW
[INDEPENDENT] NEW EP AVAILABLE NOW

The name of our EP is: Run! Hide! (crow)

How did the name come about? Every release has a theme of a different animal illustrated by our talented axeman Rohan. The Crow features throughout the artwork of this EP which works with the ongoing theme of most of the song's lyrics... We felt that a crow would be the best representation for this collection of songs, the same way that the snake best suited our debut release.

It will be released Independently, keep an eye on our myspace page for distro details.

We recorded it at Studio Von Hammer – we were lucky enough to be able to work again with Dave. Its just a nice relaxed environment to hone ideas and develop our sound.

We recorded it with: We chose to record with Dave Hammer (who also did our debut release) again because we liked his approach on our first release and were keen to build upon what we had previously done.

Tell us about the writing / pre-production process, how long did it take and how did you go about it?
It was pretty varied. Some songs came about through months of finely tuning the structure and melodies. Going back and looking at parts that didn’t work and just trying out ways of making them work and seem more fluid. Then others came about quite quickly and didn’t need much extra thought however we tend to come back to songs and rework them. Pre/prod was done in our jam space. We recorded rough demos with my laptop, a bunch of mics and garageband haha, turned out pretty balls but it worked ok.

It took us about 3 months to record it, we had a fairly tight schedule with not much time for leeway due to our budget and the fact that we gave ourselves a deadline. We also had to deal with the fact that band members would be away over the christmas holidays but hey, it all worked out in the end...so far.

Gear wise, was there anything outside your usual live equipment used? Dan Strong from The Riot & The Trauma helped me with drum tech advice, as well as lent me some gear for the recording. Also Slothy & Rohan used a bunch of different guitars (custom Telecaster, Les Paul standard, hollowbodies) amps and pedals (phaser, wah wah, harmonic generator) to experiment with sounds on each song. You can tell I play drums right?

Any memorable moments during the process that stood out? Cristian damaged his vocal chords at rehearsal and had to postpone recording for 6 weeks to let it heal. Everyone else in the band thought he should just suck it up and use the pain to sound brutally rooooooock!

Who took care of the artwork and why you chose to use them? Rohan does majority of the artwork. He has an awesome style plus he studies art so why not take advantage of that?

Now that it's ready for release, what can we expect from the final package? You can expect more killer, balls out rock’n roll. Hopefully you will notice a step forward in our song writing and the development of our sound.

Do you have a favourite track on the EP? I personally would prob say Dead Today. I think its just a good powerful song that fires you up. Plus its great to play live.

How would you compare the EP to previous releases? Hopefully production would be better on this release however we still wanted to keep it pretty raw. Also we squeezed an extra track on there for added value!
