![]() ELEVENTH HE REACHES LONDON HOLLOW BE MY NAME Available now on Good Cop Bad Cop Records The name of our album is Hollow Be My Name How did the name come about? We messed with the Lord's Prayer. It was released on 21st March, 2009 We recorded it at Bergerk! Studios, WA Tell us a bit about the studio and why you chose to record there? Bergerk! is converted from a security company's offices so there are bars over the windows and heavy ass doors. It's not exactly the Novotel in there but boy, does it sound good. We recorded it with Al Smith Tell us a bit about the engineer / producer and why you chose to record with them? Al Smith is the engineer and owner of Bergerk!. He has years of experience recording heavy music and is just the best dude in the world. Easy to get along with, great sense of humour and tells us to shut up when things get wild. Al has recorded every Eleventh release. Tell us about the writing / pre-production process, how long did it take and how did you go about it? We had been writing the album since mid 2005. The songs were 90% written in before going into the studio. It took us 18 months over 3 sessions to record the album. In terms of writing, We will play a riff for hours, sometimes years before we find its place in a song. Sometimes writing our music is like knitting a patch-work quilt. Tell us a bit about the recording process the band used. We use a fairly common method. The drums are recorded first, then bass, then guitars, then percussion and other instruments and finally, vocals. Guitar parts always take the longest as every single song has a different feel and effect. We could probably be more efficient in the studio; our sound engineer just built a new limestone wall with a plaque on it reading "donated by Eleventh He Reaches London".. Gear wise, was there anything outside your usual live equipment used? We used a Korg, heaps of percussion, banjo, acoustic guitar and trumpet. We have now incorporated these instruments into our live show. Any memorable moments during the process that stood out? Yeah, our bassist quit the band 2 weeks before going into the studio which was both serious and disasterous. Luckily he hung around long enough to record his bass parts. Recording really is a terrifying experience that is also physically and emotionally draining. It's also the most rewarding part of playing music. Who took care of the artwork and why you chose to use them? Seldon Hunt from Brooklyn, New York. We have been huge fans of the work he has done for Neurosis, Isis and Ephel Duath. His work on Hollow Be My Name is just completely outstanding. Now that it's released, what can we expect from the final package. The album is presented in a cardboard gatefold cover with a double sided 24 panel booklet. The booklet unfolds with a poster on one side and the lyrics on the other. Do you have a favourite track on the album? I would say "Oh, Brother" is my favourite at the moment. How would you compare the album to your previous recordings? More consistent, less cluterred. I think it's darker and more depressing. It contains elements of our previous work but also shows a lot of maturity I mean, we were 23 when we released The Good Fight for Harmony. We're 27 now. There are people who wish we would digress to our straight-up-screamo days but we prefer to explore new areas. Every single Eleventh release sounds vastly different to its predecessor and I can promise that our next release will follow that pattern again.
