THE COLOR OF VIOLENCE
"YOUTHANIZE"
EPITAPH / SHOCK

The name of our album is : Youthanize

How did the name come about? Derek came up with it, just means fuck me, fuck you, fuck off.

It will be released on
: Epitaph Records

We recorded it at : Earthsound Recording in Valdosta, Ga.

Tell us a bit about the studio and why you chose to record there. We have been recording there for many years now. It is where we recorded the 'aesthetic' E.P. and 'Dear Diary' for From First To Last. myspace.com/earthsoundrecording go check it out, he has worked with a lot of new bands that are up and coming.

Tell us a bit about the engineer / producer and why you chose to record with them? We worked with our friend Lee Dyess, he has been making music and records with us and other people for like 10 years or something.. i had alot of fun picking out tones and getting all the production ready.. i dont think i could have done this record with anyone else, it was so random and he picked up all the peices and helped us make something that sounded more together than we thought it was gonna end up sounding.

Tell us about the writing / pre-production process, how long did it take and how did you go about it?
Pretty much about a year ago Derek and Iwent to the studio and wrote about 9 songs, a couple didnt make it to the final record, and we recorded them as good as we could at the studio and then just toured and focued on From First To Last. We would listen to the songs and not really make changes as much as talk about more general ideas regarding the music.. It worked out, im glad we were that much on the same page cause it helped when two drummers flew in to record that have never played our music before..

It took us about a month and a half to record it.

Tell us a bit about the recording process the band used
We had some friends helping us, Jon from Daughters, Joel from The Felix Culpa, Wes Borland and Manning from FFTL and Matt from I Set My Friends On Fire.. Collabing is a lot of fun! We just started with drums, and we had about a week to track drums for the entire album with two friends we never have played with hahaha.

Gear wise, was there anything outside your usual live equipment used?
We havent really played live for this band so we just pulled out a bunch of FFTL gear and recorded with it .. haha, Derek played a hollowbody and a jag most of the record and i sang in a microphone.

Any memorable moments during the process that stood out?
I loved going to Miami and working with Nabil and Matt from I Set My Friends On Fire. We did sort of a back and forth high energy vocal for Christina Christina.. that song has some of my favorite lyrics and vocals .. gonna have to do some more collabin fo sho

Who took care of the artwork and why you chose to use them?
Nick at Epitaph, he has done the Dear Diary and Heroine cd layouts for FFTL, and he has been a close friend of Derek and myself since Epitaph signed FFTL. His art is ILL!!!

Now that it's released, what can we expect from the final package?
Vagina and tit.

Do you have a favourite track on the album?
yeah its a toss up between christina christina and large hardon collider

How would you compare the album to your previous recordings?
well this sounds like nails on a chalkboard and is suppose to leave you feeling like your ears were boxed, where as most everything else that we get to record for other bands is more melodic and structured... its fun breaking out of molds and spasticly defying yourself. Making a COV record is a deep thing for me cause its like getting a boner and running around at the super bowl.. .just lettin it out for the world to see and basking in your mental birthday suit. its slightly liberating.
