What's In The Box? this week kicks off with a dose of melodic punk / hardcore that can be found on the new album from Strike Anywhere which will hit stores this Friday. They may have been a little quiet the last couple of years, but they seem to be right back on the top of their game with this one. A BIT ABOUT IT
Iron Front is the fourth studio album by Strike Anywhere, we last heard from them
with 2006's 'Dead FM'. Fast forward to 2009 and Strike Anywhere had fragments
of song ideas, melodies, guitar progressions, rhythms, and lyrics that they’d
put together over the course of the three years ready to assemble an album. These
ideas were put together while the band was spending time overseas living and working
in a rehearsal room built by the Prague Nomads, in Czech, outside of the city.
There, the band did a lot of crucial writing and fine-tuning of their collection
of new songs. Upon their return, Strike got together a few more times in Richmond,
VA in basements and warehouses to finish building what would become Iron Front.
Recorded by Brian McTernan at Salad Days in Baltimore, Iron Front packs the intensity
and ferocity that Strike Anywhere had in their heads and hearts throughout the
writing process
OUR QUICK THOUGHTS
Time is a bitch these days, it almost feels like these guys are already one of
the forgotten groups out there. Hopefully I'm wrong, because this album is one
of their best. It's no surprise at all that the band has had a bit of a gap between
releases, relentless in touring since their beginning, they fast became a favourite
to Australian audiences through a few visits. Anyway back onto this album, they're
now on Bridge Nine Records, and it's an impressive start to their stay there.
All the energy we've come to expect from the band, lyrics with meaning and a true
sense of passion in their delivery. Great singalongs, and plenty of songs that
you just know you can have fun watching live. Anyone who's seen them knows they
are a great live band and they've made a fair attempt at bringing that live energy
into the studio. Hopefully they haven't fallen off too many people's radar, because
this album is well worth your listening to, and it'd be great to see them back
on our shores playing to packed rooms again. It's safe to say that if you have
ever enjoyed these guys in the past, you will dig this, and if you are one who
may not have heard of them before, id you like your punk rock fast and melodic,
then this would be a great introduction to a band worth following.
