| Not
the kind of sound that does much for me in general. I
did quite enjoy a few tracks musically, and the odd occasion
that proper singing came into the equation there were
moments of potential, but they were quickly killed off
by the awful growls and grumbles. The sooner bands like
this leave the wannabe tough-guy screaming to bands brutal
enough to actually warrant it, the better. |

WHO?
The Devil Wears Prada, formed in 2005 in Dayton, Ohio, started out
riding high on Rise Records, releasing Dear Love: A Beautiful Discord
and Plagues. In 2008, right before embarking on the Vans Warped
Tour, The Devil Wears Prada announced their signing with Ferret.
The band has been busy since the release of Plagues, including headlining
multiple tours in the US and internationally and have also been
featured on multiple festivals worldwide.
WHAT?
This is the band's third full length and first for Ferret, in the
first months of 2009, the band hit the studio with producer Joey
Sturgis to record this package. You are gonna have to be a fan of
the sing-scream-growl type vocals to get into this one beyond a
few moments. When there is actual singing, it sounds awesome, but
when the cookie monster takes over the mic, all is ruined. They
are a band that seems to pride themselves on their lyrics, I don't
see the point when you can only understand about 25% of them, maybe
that's a good thing though... Musically, i don't mind this album,
some good ideas, a good mix of sounds, and when the powerful sounds
are behind actual singing, I did find myself getting into it, but
far too many moments of generic, done to death grumbling that you
couldn't understand even if you tried.
WHY?
If you know them, and like them already, then chances are you are
already onto this one. I don't think this new album will bring too
many people across into the fan base who aren't already into similar
sing-scream type bands, perhaps if they had an option of turning
off the vocals it'd be worth listening to for the music alone.
