| Anti-Flag
have pulled off a cracker of a record, they're still angry
& pissed off, but manage to hold a good balance of
flat out punk rock with the more melodic type they've
dished out in more recent times as well. End result is
an album that fans of any era of the band will be able
to take something from. Lots of variety on offer, but
it all falls under the same umbrella and blends together
nicely, you are left with a very appealing album, definitely
the best one they've done since my personal fave 'Underground
Network'.

WHO?
Having spent the last three years on a major label, Anti-Flag return
to the independent world, teaming up with boom punk label SideOneDummy
for this new album that kinda grabbed us by surprise as 'The Bright
Lights Of America' was only released in April last year. Quick turnaround,
how will it stack up?
WHAT?
This album kicks off in a blaze with the anthemic 'Sodom, Gomorrah,
Washington D.C', loaded with a spark of energy that the band has
been known for in the past, but was missing on the last album, good
to hear that raw passion blasting out. The next couple of tracks
are a bit more rock than punk, but still carry a good raw vibe to
them, both growers. 'We Are The One' is very typical Anti-Flag at
their best, the token call & response type chorus and a big
sound overall, will be killer in the live arena this track. Things
keep getting better in the thrashy vibe of 'You Are Fired (Take
This Job)', short & sweet this number, one of the best tracks
i've heard from them in a while. Same deal with 'No War Without
Warriors (How Do You Sleep', Anti-Flag are pissed off again, and
the result = awesome tunes. Add 'Teenage Kennedy Lobotomy' to the
list of stand out tracks as well, nice and gritty. Australia get's
three bonus tracks too, the best of which comes in the form of the
hard-hitting 'The Weathermen Know Which Way The Wind Blows', thumping
drums really step up in the production and your fist will be punching
the air in time with the drums as you chant along.
WHY?
While they never really fell out of form, this one is in someway
a return to the more gritty and angry Anti-Flag we've loved over
the years, still with a commercial appeal in their approach I think
they've balanced it out well to deliver an album that should really
impress their fans and possibly bring a few new ones on board. It's
solid punk rock, with a message.
WHEN & WHERE?
'The People Or The Gun' will be instores June 5th, 2009 on Side
One Dummy / Shock Records. The initial Australian pressing will
come with a bonus disc with 3 extra tracks.
Stay tuned for pre-order information for the CD, you can pre-order
