| I
was expecting a lot worse than what I was treated to on
this one. Everything added to expectations of a train-wreck,
but thankfully, it's still on the tracks. Not something
I'd pull out often, but there are enough good moments
on this album to outweigh the average parts. Sometimes
a little sugar is good for you, worth a listen if commercial
pop punk tickles your spot. |

WHO?
On paper, Hedley, who hail from Canada look to be the equivilent
of that band that Lee Harding put together. See, the singer of Hedley
was a contestant on Canadian Idol, his old bandmates apparantly
put some money down that he wouldn't go on it, he did, and came
third, subsequently he got signed, re-grouped the band, put out
a couple of cds, and now they've been compiled into this 12 track
album.
WHAT?
While the general tone of this album is commercial pop-punk, it's
not as bad as you might expect, at the same time it's not going
to change the world and they certainly are not bringing anything
new to the table. It is quite listenable though. If you like your
Yellowcard mixed with Bowling For Soup and a hint of The Used &
Jimmy Eat World and coated in a sugary gloss, then this one might
be up your alley. There are a few catchy moments, 'Never Too Late'
is a highlight, 'Gunnin' is a little too Simple Plan for my liking,
'Bones Shatter' has all the elements to be a commercial single,
which i guess is the general aim of the band.
WHY?
The younger you are, the more chance you'll like this, that said,
compared to most commercial pop-punk bands out there, i'd pick this
one off the shelf over most of them anyday. If you fancy that big
production, layered chorus, easily digestable sound, then give these
guys a go, you could very well be impressed.
