WHO?
Birmingham, Alabama's Maylene and The Sons of Disaster are a wild
bunch. The band plays a swampy form of hugely humongous chaotic
rock, almost certainly influenced by the likes of ZZ Top, Guns N'
Roses, or AC/DC (or more recently, Every Time I Die or Underoath),
and are hedging their bets on this latest album to be their breakout
record. With 40,000 sales of 'II' and a hectic life on the road
the Sons have been seemingly unstoppable, tearing alongside the
likes of A Static Lullaby, Clutch, From Autumn to Ashes, and Norma
Jean, and opening fire on Warped Tour stages for two more summers
plus a slot on this years Soundwave festival and supporting Alice
in Chains on their Sidewave shows.
WHAT WE THOUGHT
Big guitars, a vocalist gargling gravel, choruses that make you
want to pull up a stool and attack that whiskey bottle, that's Maylene
And The Sons Of Disaster for you. This time around the Southern
Rocker's take a bit of a Motley Crue path at times, or maybe that's
just the big production adding a bit of cock into their brand of
rock? It's got balls, oozes guts and actually does have a bit of
everything. One minute it's smooth, the next your listening to the
soundtrack of a throat being slithered to pieces. A little different
to past efforts, so may take some adjusting too, but definitely
an album that grows with each listen. Nice effort.
