| These
guys keep getting better with every release, doing something
that could've probably been seen as a gimmick early on,
they've come out and upped the ante with each release,
continually developing their sound and treading new ground
each time. It's an album that should entertain even the
most critical of ears, packed with a fun energy and sounds
that haven't been done to death. Great to chuck on at
a party, in the car or anywhere that needs a good vibe.
Don't be afraid of the hip-hop influence, it actually
works really well. No plans for a local release out here
at this stage, but the tracks are available on itunes.
Hopefully the hype they've been generating over in the
US makes it's way to our shores allowing them to pay us
a visit, because i'd imagine they would be a damn entertaining
live band, because they've got it nailed in the studio
each time so far. One of the bands to definitely keep
your eye out for if you love your fun punk rock, you'll
be hard pressed to find many new bands doing it this good. |

Bombs
Away introduces the album with a slow building intro that
explodes into the chorus and that unique vocal sound that has impressed
on their previous releases, the chorus will stick in your head instantly
and the song lives up to all you'd expect from it's title. A great
start.
Throw Your Sets Up is where the beats start dropping,
see Whole Wheat Bread aren't your average punk band, with a big
rap / hip hop influence they manage to blend the two quite often,
and they do it well, you may think to yourself on first listen "what
are they doing here", but give it a few runs and you'll see
it's value, throw them in a packed venue and this song would set
the room alight.
Girlfriend Like This is a great anthemic track
that builds up quickly and will have you wanting to chant along
and keep your hands pumping the air. A great sing-a-long type track
with a nice groove, if this song doesn't get you off your arse then
you are a hard one to please, crank it and let that bass line vibrate
away, would suit a live setting just as much as it would a nightclub.
Lower Class Man brings us back into the fast punk
rock, those waving hands have now been turned into clenched fists
punching the air. It's short and sweet, solid punk rock.
I Can’t Think keeps up the pace, actually
steps it up a gear, a nice frenetic / thrashy number that comes
out on par with any of the classic punk bands of the last few decades.
Midway through the song an angry rap breaks out behind some crunchy
guitars, then a nice fast solo leads back into the good stuff. The
blending of genres works a treat.
Ode 2 Father sounds like the pop-punk going around
in the late 90's, a little Millencolin'ish at time, nice to hear,
again showcasing these guys talents for mixing up their sounds.
One of the highlights.
Staying True kicks in with an acoustic guitar just
when you thought they'd covered all sounds, we get this slower paced
acoustic number that builds up as more instruments drop in before
exploding back into a punk rock ending, it's a track that may take
a few listens before it grows on you.
Bloodstains & Bitemarks is another slower paced
track, not bad, just doesn't really jump out and grab you like most
of the others have done.
Every Man For Himself picks up the pace once again
and is another really 90's punk sounding track
New Age Southern Baptist Nigga From Da Hood is
where it's at, once again they throw another sound into the mix
and in this just over one minute track they hit you, kick you and
give you a bit of a laugh as well. Big sounding punk rock, it's
the goods.
Catch 22 has an awesome sounding bass intro, from
there you know things are only going to be good, and that they are.
A punchy number that would be another to convert well to a live
audience and get them jumping around like nutters.
Stuck In Da Dark brings back that 'Girlfriend Like
You' kinda sound, the fusion of hip hop with a gritty punk vibe.
Awesome to sing along to, would be a winner live, lots of audience
interaction available. After a roller coaster ride of sounds the
album ends nicely, you'll be grooving along to the beat and no doubt
be left satisfied with what has taken place over the last 30 minutes.
