| Not
a bad listen overall, not much of a fresh vibe, lots of
elements we've all heard before musically, but enough
quality moments to make it a decent album for a debut,
There's the occasional hint of Smashing Pumpkins to the
sound. Not sure if it will have much of a life in the
spotlight, not much incentive to replay it over and over,
may get forgotten about after a few months. Worth giving
it a go though, you may just dig it. |

WHO?
Two Tongues is a collaboration between Max and Coby of Say Anything
alongside Chris and David from Saves The Day. A mutual respect of
each others bands brought them together and they began writing this
debut album that they self-produced at Electric Ladybug Studios
in Northern California.
WHAT?
An interesting mixture of sounds are on offer with this album, some
moments that really shine, and some others that are a bit of a drag.
Experimental indie-rock is one umbrella I guess you could slot this
one, something quite different from both Say Anything and Saves
The Day although you will probably enjoy it more if you are a follower
of either band. Max's vocals will take some getting used to for
those not familiar with SA material, it's quite a unique style,
some will love it, some won't. There is no real direction, or formula
to follow, not afraid to jump between straight up pop-punk, rock,
indie and everything in between, no two tracks are the same and
you do get that "friends just having fun, writing whatever
they want" kind of vibe happening as opposed to someone trying
to fit in with whatever is cool at the minute. Not something i'd
personally pull off the shelf too often, a little too all over the
place for my liking which makes it hard to get right into beyond
the few standout tracks. Perhaps an EP would've been a better launching
point quality wise, could've thrown out the filler.
WHY?
Pick this one up if you are curious what a blend of STD & SA
sounds like, don't mind some quirky sounds and aren't put off by
the vocal styling of Max Bemis.
WHEN?
The album will be released in Australia on Saturday January 31st
on Vagrant Records through Shock Records.
WHERE?
In all good record stores and online at play4me.com.au
