| Good
things come to those who wait they say. We waited.. and
waited.. and The Optionals delivered. An album for those
who miss the "good old days" of years gone by,
as well as the younger generation looking for something
honest that hasn't been sugarcoated by grubby mitts looking
to make a quick buck or "fit in". It's an album
that definitely won't collect dust on your shelf in years
to come, you'll give it a good run. Let's just hope the
next one doesn't take so long! |

WHO?
The Optionals hail from Sydney and have been doing the rounds on
the live circuit for a number of years, in those years they have
put out an album and an EP with various lineups. The three piece
play a nice blend of rock and skate-punk coated with a layer of
nineties influence. Their songs are gritty, fast, melodic and appealing
to wide range of ears.
WHAT?
This is their first full length as a three piece and their first
for the Poison City Records label, a very long time in the making,
it's finally seen the light of day, and your collection will be
much better for owning it. If you've seen The Optionals live, then
you know they are a no bullshit type of band, they play music they
want to, to have a good time, not because it will get them in a
glossy magazine or a big friend count, and this is reflected on
CD as well. They issue 13 tracks of rock / punk goodness, no accessories,
no useless filler, just song after song of catchy choruses, fast
playing and all round solid songs. The title track is as anthemic
as anything the big skate punk bands issued in the 90's, just with
a modern shine over it, just you try not singing along the next
time "You don't have to be dead to realise" rolls
along. Live favourite 'Ghoul Is Gone' would have a cloud of dirt
covering the mosh at any big festival as circle pits break out and
'Makin' Sense' will have even the most critical punter nodding their
head and tapping their foot in the back corner of any pub.
WHY?
Honest punk rock bands are too few and far between these days as
everyone tries to be something they just are not. If you like your
tunes, a little gritty, a little raw around the edges while still
sounding great and easy to sing along with, skate to, or even kick
back with, then you should check this one out.
WHEN?
The album is available now through Poison City Records.
WHERE?
You can grab a copy from the Posion
