MONDAY - Hold On Tight |

| If
you are in the right frame of mind, this could become
your guilty pleasure album. It's fun, happy, poppy as
fuck, but just has that little something that has it not
inflicting pain on your ears as most similar artists do.
For a debut album from such young folks, you can't deny
their talent, and singer Cassadee has a solid voice that
may just lure you in, even if female singers aren't your
thing. Certainly the majority of people who will be big
on this will be teenagers, and i know i'd rather the younger
generation listening to this, over half the horrible stuff
they get sucked into these days. |

WHO?
Hey Monday are a young, relatively new band out of Florida who managed
to instantly get themselves a record deal with Columbia & Decaydance.
Thrown into the deep end right away, this is their debut album.
Fronted by 19 year old Cassadee Pope, they play a catchy pop-rock
sound that has no doubt been compared to Paramore by everyone under
the sun.
WHAT?
This album is a bunch of youngsters having fun, playing a happy,
poppy sound that will definitely appeal to the ears of thousands
of teenagers. While it is extremely poppy and accessible, they manage
to keep the cheese to a minimum, so while you might expect another
awful, cheesy pop band on the exterior, if you take the time to
listen to the music, it's actually pretty decent for what it is,
and I've definitely heard a lot worse. It doesn't come across as
manufactured or created just for one market with dollar signs in
their (or some puppet master's) eyes. It's simply talented kids,
having fun. It certainly isn't going to be for everyone, and the
bubbly energy does start to get a little on your nerve towards the
end, that said, you'd much rather your younger siblings listening
to this over shit like Simple Plan and the like. The songs are catchy,
and if you don't mind a bit of bubblegum every so often, then this
would be a good cure for that itch. Don't be surprised if songs
like 'Homecoming' and 'Hurricane Streets' wind up on the next 'cool'
teen movies, they'd fit in like a glove.
WHY?
Need yourself a dose of sugar? Don't want the manufactured blend
of cheese on top? Then go have a listen to these guys (and gal),
it's not the kind of album you are going to bust out when your mates
get in your car, nor would you probably play it over and over, but
if you want something happy, upbeat, catchy and easy on the ear,
then you can do a hell of a lot worse than picking this album off
the shelf when you need that sugar hit.
WHEN?
The album will be released locally by Sony Music on Saturday
7th February to coincide with the band touring Australia with Fall
Out Boy in February. If you are going to the show, then this mob
could be worth a peek.

You can pick up a copy from February 7th in record stores, or you
