| The
Boss delivers a fine album of honest American rock tunes
that each tell a story. For an old fellah, he still has
the touch and that's proven with killer songs like 'Working
On A Dream' and 'Outlaw Pete' that any younger artists
would wish they could come close to. The majority of the
highlights are at the beginning which does make the back
end of the album drag a little, but overall it's all quality
and hopefully more bands take a strong influence from
such a strong figure. |

WHO?
You don't know The Boss?, go have a chat with your parents then.
Bruce Springsteen has been one of America's most talented songwriters
since long before you were born. Now at age 59 he continues to pump
out a new album, this one his 15th studio album to date. Bruce continues
to be a major influence on the popular artists of today, bands like
The Gaslight Anthem have no shame in wearing his influence on their
blue collars.
WHAT?
Album #15 for The Boss, and it kicks off with an epic 8 minute opener
called 'Outlaw Pete'. This song has everything I love about music
in it, it's delivered with honesty, it's lyrics tell a story, and
you have no problems singing along to it, the 8 minutes flies by
and you just want to listen to this track over and over. But there
is an albums worth to get through, and the quality keeps flowing
with 'My Lucky Day' and the title track 'Working On A Dream'. For
all the modern studio technology around, it just can't match up
to when you have a great songwriter, with a top notch voice and
a no frills approach to his music, to still be pumping out quality
music after 15 albums and nearing 60 years old is an awesome achievement,
heck i'll be happy to still be walking at 60. Just like all his
previous works, the whole Americana vibe is on show throughout,
and it's the lyrics that shine. A full album that I know I won't
be getting sick of anytime soon. Your folks will love it, and if
you have any hint of taste in you, you should as well.
WHY?
Forget about your artists aiming for five minutes of fame and look
towards one who's had it for decades, and for good reason. If you
like well written songs that aren't filled with lame and cheesy
lyrics, but ones that actually have good meaning, and ones you will
be singing along with. Sits perfectly with this summer weather,
pull up a chair and enjoy what is on offer.
