| A
well produced album by a band who knows how to keep a
real sound. No over the top studio trickery, no annoying
vocals, dodgy screaming or lame "image" about
them. Exactly what you want in a good hardcore band, hopefully
this album grabs the attention of many fans of the genre,
because I reckon many will enjoy it.
Good attitude, good tunes, great packaging, refreshing
to hear / see. |

WHO?
Above This Fire are a 5 piece DIY hardcore / metal band from Cleveland,
Ohio. Already under their belt is an album in 2005 and two EP's
in 2006, late last year they put out this album through new DIY
label Forest City Records.
WHAT?
This ten track album is for those who like it heavy, a little more
hardcore than metal, but sitting in between, the production is great,
as is the packaging, a nice unique design allows you to play around
and design your own cover, though a pain in the arse if you lose
the loose bits inside i guess. Onto the actual music, well you'd
hardly tell these guys weren't already picked up by a bigger label,
I haven't heard their previous material but this one is great. A
powerful sound that hits you instantly. The screaming is actually
decent, and for the most part you can understand what's going on
lyrically, no dying cats snuck into the studio for this recording.
Coming in at just under 30 minutes they don't mess around, each
song straight to the point, with 'To The Wolves' setting the tone
of the album perfectly. There's no letting up on the pace throughout
the album, no boring bits either. Don't be surprised if you hear
more of these guys in the future, this is a world class album from
DIY band doing it better than most of the bigger names going around.
WHY?
If you like something that sits between Every Time I Die and Poison
The Well, then it's worth your while checking these guys out. More
hardcore than metal, but should appeal to fans of both genres.
WHEN?
The album was released in November 2008 and is available now.
