back the hair, shine those shoes, slip into that wife
beater or flame embroidered work shirt and get ready for
a rockin' ride. Bass heavy, guitar driven, sing-a-long
tracks you will be bopping along to in no time. I don't
listen to too much of this stuff, but this album took
just seconds to get into. You can tell they're an experienced
bunch, there is a real live vibe about the sound that
isn't the easiest thing to capture in a studio. A really
cool 50's - 60's vibe with a modern glossing. |

WHO?
Voodoo Swing was established in 1990 and has been playing Tear-it-up
Rockabilly ever since. This third release has been a long time coming.
Back when the band was most active in the early nineties they shared
stages with Dick Dale, The Reverend Horton Heat, Hillbilly Hellcats
and more. Now they are back with a new album, and this is it.
WHAT?
Classic rockabilly is what this threesome play, classic as in way
back when style rockabilly. You'll wish you had a classic car, slicked
back hair, Betty by your side and your dancing shoes on as soon
as you press play on this one. Actually, I think I feel the need
to grab my La Bamba DVD and watch it right after this, Won't be
an album for everyone's taste, but if you don't mind a bit of a
trip back sound wise with a modern production and songs just made
for singing and dancing along to, then check this album out. It's
a pretty solid effort from start to finish, flows well and there
is no real up and down moments, nice and consistent. The production
is great, everything sound a treat, nothing beats the sound of a
bass line coming from a double bass, and when it's captured well,
you get that nice warm sound coming at you.
WHY?
I'm not going to pretend I know all that much about this genre,
I don't know how many bands these days are doing this 'classic'
sound, but I do know that this is a really fun sounding album you
can tap your feet and nod your head too. I can see myself pulling
it when I need a fix of something different. If you even have the
slightest liking for a bit of rockabilly, then look these guys up,
you might very well dig.
WHEN?
The album is available now.
