| Cool
tracks that glide by at a moderate pace, each one different
enough from the last to hold your attention. The album
isn't going to set the world on fire, but it will keep
many a fan of the melodic punk rock sound happy. Good
attitude, Good lyrics, Good songs, there's not much else
to say other than if you have a spare few minutes, check
these guys out and you may just find yourself a new fan. |

WHO?
O Pioneers!!! come out of Houston, Texas with a husky voice fronting
mid 90's style melodic punk-rock similar to that of Jawbreaker,
Hot Water Music and co. They are a band with a strong touring and
DIY ethic which led them to being signed to Asian Man Records in
the US and local label Poison City have picked up the Australian
/ NZ release of this album. The band went through a number of lineup
changes before getting into the studio to lay down this album
WHAT?
O Pioneers!!! play a sound that many bands have tried their hand
at for quite some time now, thankfully it never really gets old
and these guys have their own flavour to throw into the mix. This
is a fun album made by dudes who you can tell are really into their
craft. There are no radio singles, no excessive effects, just a
consistent sound, some real-world lyrics and song titles that will
probably make you think they are a high-school pop punk band. If
you like that gravel throated vocal sound over some cool melodic
punk / rock then listening to these guys will do you no harm. Everyone
seems to put Hot Water Music as the comparison point to any band
like this, and you can see why with these guys, but they are no
imitators, they do their own thing and the end result is an album
that won't blow you away, but won't have you reaching for the stop
button either. Full of simple, solid tracks with good lyrics anyone
can related to and a sound that will appeal to many. Give it a run,
chances are you'll probably enjoy it.
WHY?
If you like a good DIY band that makes sense to the common man and
isn't going to suddenly turn all generic on you with a hint of success,
then add these guys to your radar, they've been around a fair while,
released a tonne of 7"s and hit the road hard like any good
band should. And that attitude / ethic comes across in the music,
it's genuine and you can feel that vibe. Go have a listen to them.
