| There
are some really awesome 'Bronx' type moments on this album,
but unfortunately my aging ears just found the vocals
that little bit too much more often than not. Love everything
they are doing musically, crunchy riffs, awesome playing,
and when he's actually singing Frank has a great powerful
voice, but then he slips into a gut wrenching squeal it
seems and while that's the whole appeal for some, it just
spoiled the moment for me. Worth checking out though it
may be up your alley. |

WHO?
Leathermouth is a project masterminded by My Chemical Romance guitarist
Frank Iero and a hometown buddy of his, a few friends later an album
is spawned, a home is found at Epitaph, and now an angry side of
Frank is crammed onto a shiny disc. If you are looking for the easily
digestible / theatrical styling's of My Chemical Romance, then you
probably aren't going to be impressed with Frank's angry side.
WHAT?
For the most part, this album is what you'd expect to hear as the
backing track of the most brutal scene in a horror movie when the
serial killer character goes on a rampage. A sound that certainly
will not be for everyone, if you can handle being screamed at for
25 minutes, then continue. If you don't, then I highly doubt you
are gonna dig. Musically, things are great, powerful sounding tracks,
quality hardcore in that department no questions about it, but the
vocals just didn't do it for me, if you've ever wondered what it
would sound like when someone with a half slit throat was trying
to sing, I reckon it'd sound something like this, that said there
are a hell of a lot worse vocalists out there, at least this is
listenable to my ears, I just can't understand half the words he's
trying to spew out at me. Some people dig their music that way,
and if you do, then I reckon you'd love this, for what it is, it's
quality, just didn't really strike the right cord with my tastes.
Best song on offer comes in the form of 'Murder Was The Case They
Gave Me' which sounds like something straight off a Bronx album.
WHY?
In the need for something that will make you feel like you could
eat a bowl of glass after listening to it? Need something to lose
your shit over and get destructive? Then here is your soundtrack.
Great ideas musically are on offer, and for that alone it's worth
checking out, if you can handle the vocals you are bound to enjoy.
