| Well
this one sure took me on a trip back down memory lane,
back to the days where every second band was cranking
out the tunes in this fashion. It's back to the basics
of melodic punk rock, not to say it's overly simple, it's
just not littered with useless extras, or bits thrown
in to fit a trend. It's raw, honest, and damn infectious.
Production is awesome and it sounds great when you want
to give the speakers a workout, just the way it should
be. Check them out. |

WHO?
High Five Drive blast out of Canada with their melodic punk sound,
the four piece have been around a number of years with multiple
releases, and a strong tour ethic that has seen them sell over 4000
cds, mostly at their shows.
WHAT?
This album doesn't take long to jump out and grab you, first thing
you notice is the really gritty production, courtesy of John Peters
(Comeback Kid), you could say the result is one that any melodic
punk band would be hoping to achieve. Of course it helps when you
have great music too, and these guys have nailed that as well, lots
of neat guitar work going on jumping between the background and
then bursting it's way to the front. Vocally there is a slight hint
of old Game Over coming through to my ears, everything is really
energetic, breakneck pace without being over the top, which a few
bands have fallen into the trap of playing this sound, High Five
Drive have balanced it all out really well. Plenty of highlights
on this one, personal favourite's include 'Inspiration Is Realization',
'Eight Hour Drives', 'Party Of One' and the acoustic track 'Never
Give Up' works really well too.
WHY?
Maybe you are like me, and still hold fond memories of the sound
that you grew up on when you first got into punk rock, or maybe
you missed that 90's era and are looking for something with a bit
of guts to get away from the majority of today's overly manufactured
sounds. These guys aren't going to change the world, but they will
provide you with 12 solid tracks of highly entertaining melodic
punk rock. Your time will not be wasted checking them out.
WHEN?
The album will be available April 29th on Fond
of Life Records, No Reason Records and Bad Mood Records.
