| If
you dig the slower side of bands like Kisschasy and Jimmy
Eat World, chances are high you will latch onto this EP
pretty quickly. It's refreshing to hear a vocalist not
ditching the 'Aussie' and trying to pull of the American
accent in his singing too. Pretty cool debut, won't be
up everyone's alley, but no harm in listening to find
out. |

WHO?
Drugs In Vegas hail out of Melbourne town, the young four piece
indie-rock outfit have been building towards this debut EP release
for a few years, slugging it out in band comps as well as their
own gigs, last year coming up trumps in the 2008 Melbourne Fresh
Industry Showcase.
WHAT?
Drugs In Vegas have an indie pop-rock vibe about their sound, the
pace remains pretty consistent throughout the 7 tracks on offer
here. Clocking in around the 30 minute mark, there are certainly
songs of length, particularly the 8 minute 'Cemeteries & Seagulls'.
The easiest comparison point for you to get an idea of their sound
would perhaps be to place the voice of Kisschasy into a band like
Something For Kate. The genre is one that I struggle with often
and need to really be in the mood to sit through songs, but this
mob managed to hold my attention pretty solidly throughout. At times
there is a bit of a Jimmy Eat World / Death Cab For Cutie vibe.
If those bands are up your alley, then I daresay Drugs In Vegas
will impress your ears. Enough catchy elements on offer, and if
they can pull off the very polished studio sound in the live arena,
then you might just be hearing alot more about the band this year.
WHY?
Need a dose of indie-pop? Checking Drugs In Vegas out will not do
you any harm, for a debut, this EP is quite solid, when you are
in the mood for something a bit softer, reach for this one.
WHEN & WHERE?
'All This And More' will be available from May 1st.
