THE BAND
What’s the story behind the band name?

It was the name of a friend’s blog. We liked the irony of the contrasting emo-style name, and the subject matter.

When did the band begin and how did it come about?

Scott and Brenton played in a band together for years. About 3 years ago Dayvid and I joined that band and the name changed to Kill Teen Angst.

How would you describe your sound to the average Joe on the street?
Loud, urgent pop songs.

What’s your current release? Tell us a little about it…
It’s our debut self titled EP, available nationally through Good Cop Bad Cop / Inertia. It took us a while to release but we’re very happy with the results.

What image do you think / hope your music conveys?
I only hope whatever image it does convey to the listener, is a meaningful thing. Apart from that, a naked girl on a motorcycle, on fire.

In five years time the band will be…
balding, probably.

OFF THE STAGE
What was your first introduction to music that made you think seriously about playing it?

Going to underage gigs at the Grosvenor back room in Perth, in the late 90’s. Bands like Turnstyle, Jebediah, Ammonia – they were very cool.

What was your first band name and what style did you play?
Kill Teen Angst used to be called Ten Speed Racer. They played unrefined, but good indie pop.

Tell us three albums you couldn’t live without in your collection:
Weezer (Pinkerton),
Archers Of Loaf (All The Nations Airports),
Trail Of Dead (Source Tags & Codes)

Best piece of musical advice you’ve been given:
Trust your own judgment as to what you think is good and what you think is bad.

Two groups/artists you’d love to take out on the road:
There are many, but lets say, Blueline Medic and The Nation Blue. They would be taking us though!

Favourite song of your group?
“Roscoe” by Midlake. Or if you mean KTA song, “Death To Rio”

The thing you most look forward to just before a tour is:
Meeting new people, seeing new bands.

The thing you least look forward to before a tour is:
Flying / Driving.

When your not doing band related stuff, what are you usually found doing?
Going to local gigs in Perth!.

ON THE STAGE / ROAD
What gear do you use?

Orange / Fender / Ampeg amps. Fender & Gibson guitars. Pearl / Zildjian drums.

Favourite place (city/town/country) you’ve toured… and why?
Broome in WA was an eye opening experience. Its crazy that its so far away, yet is in the same state as Perth. If we were in Europe we could’ve driven across 4 or 5 countries in the same distance.

The best show you’ve ever played was… and why?
Supporting Mclusky a few years ago. They’re one of my favourite bands.

Who hogs the stereo in the van the most?
No one, we all respect eachothers taste and take it in turns. How boring!

After a week in the van/bus on tour which band member will have the messiest section, and what would we most likely find stashed there?
Im probably the messiest, although there will be a lot of “plant life” all over the van.

Who in your group has the worst “bad habit” on tour, and what is it?
Brenton snores very loudly.

Most embarrassing moment on tour?
Oh little things like having to call up the tour manager and tell him you’ve lost your keys for the room. Shit like that.

Give us a good quick ‘on the road’ story, funny, embarrassing, memorable, whatever…
Dayvid “borrowed” a bottle of whiskey from a pub we played at in a small town. We drank it slowly for the next few days with other stuff before shows. Then someone tried drinking it straight and we realized it was in fact, decorative whiskey for the shelf. Tea or something. I threw up in a car park in horror and shame.

Your manager calls and says the venue you are about to play really wants to keep you happy, what’s the first thing you chuck on the rider?
6 white horses.

RIGHT NOW
What’s getting the most spins in your stereo right now?

Against me.

Tell us a band or artist everyone should check out and why…
Pinback. American band that’s been around for a while. Amazing.

If you could change one thing about the music industry today, what would it be?

Less stupid people with insane amounts of power. This goes all the way down to the local scene level.

As soon as I’ve finished answering these questions I’m about to…
get back to work.
