THE BASICS Name : Nelson Tilbrook Band : Lungs Job In Band : Bass Website Address : www.myspace.com/howlungswork HOME Hometown : Sydney Hometown is best known for : a big bridge Best thing about the music scene in your hometown : NOT the Empire Hotel in Annandale Most influential band to yourself that’s come out of your home town : probably Front End Loader Best up and coming band from your home town would be : Sailmaker and Lights Out THE BAND What’s the story behind the band name? We all have them! When did the band begin and how did it come about? Mid-2006. Adam and I had been friends for years and always talked about starting a 90’s-style punk rock band. We needed a drummer, and later met Tom at a party, and the rest, as they say, is history. How would you describe your sound to the average Joe on the street? Soup. Soup, a tasty soup. What’s your current release? Tell us a little about it… We just released an album called ‘An Anatomical Guide’ on Poison City Records which we are really happy with. It was recorded by the legendary Lachlan Mitchell at 1A Production Ave, ROCKdale! What image do you think / hope your music conveys? World Peace, no question. In five years time the band will be… playing the RSL circuit, opening for Rex Banner? OFF THE STAGE What was your first introduction to music that made you think seriously about playing it? Early Fat Wreck Chords releases like NOFX, Propagandhi, and Lagwagon. What was your first band name and what style did you play? The Naughty Housewives; fast pop-punk Tell us three albums you couldn’t live without in your collection Conation - The Dichotomy of Earth and the Human Race Propagandhi - Today’s Empires, Tomorrow’s Ashes Bad Religion - Suffer Best piece of musical advice you’ve been given 1, 2, 3, 4… Fucking count! Two groups/artists you’d love to take out on the road Daysworth Fighting and A Death in the Family Favourite song of your group? My favorite song off the record would probably be Isolately, but new stuff is always exciting The thing you most look forward to just before a tour is hanging with friends and goofing around in Andy’s Poison City Records store The thing you least look forward to before a tour is leaving my human counterpart behind (except for when she comes with me!) When your not doing band related stuff, what are you usually found doing? Adventuring in the World of Warcraft ON THE STAGE / ROAD What gear do you use? I have 2 P-Basses and an Ampeg head and boxes Favourite place (city/town/country) you’ve toured… and why? Melbourne, the Arthouse and Missing Link are great. And Lord of the Fries! The best show you’ve ever played was… and why? The Herman Bar at Sydney Uni with The City on Film. Why? BOB NANNA… that shit was b-nanas Who hogs the stereo in the van the most? We fly ya motherlicker After a week in the van/bus on tour which band member will have the messiest section, and what would we most likely find stashed there? I am, and I think I can speak for Adam when I say we are anally retentive, so Tom is messiest by default. Tom is likely to be entirely nude and hording various achievements Who in your group has the worst “bad habit” on tour, and what is it? I am a chronic worryer… so me, or maybe Adam, Tom don’t care. Most embarrassing moment on tour? I tend to sleep walk, which can land me in various embarrassing scenarios Give us a good quick ‘on the road’ story, funny, embarrassing, memorable, whatever… We arrived at the airport ready to catch our flights to Melbourne, but when we went to check-in, the lovely lady behind the counter politely informed us that our flight was booked for the month prior. That’s embarrassing… for Tom. Your manager calls and says the venue you are about to play really wants to keep you happy, what’s the first thing you chuck on the rider? Manager?! Most prob clean socks and underwear, and some Coopers Red RIGHT NOW What’s getting the most spins in your stereo right now? Sommerset’s ‘More songs…’ Tell us a band or artist everyone should check out and why… Daysworth Fighting, an excellent band from Melbourne If you could change one thing about the music industry today, what would it be? A musicians allowance from Centrelink, instant fame and fortune for any band called lungs with exactly us as members As soon as I’ve finished answering these questions I’m about to… continue my battle in chess against my girlfriend, wankers hey? |
