BLACKLISTED :::::: |
THE BASICS Name : Shawn Foley Band : Blacklisted Job In Band : Drummer Website Address : www.myspace.com/blacklisted HOME Hometown : Philadelphia Hometown is best known for : Our Wonderful food and Insane sports fans. Best thing about the music scene in your hometown : Its not as violent anymore and its growing. Most influential band to yourself that’s come out of your home town : The Hooters Best up and coming band from your home town would be : Let Down THE BAND What’s the story behind the band name? Its a breakdown record, and Robby Redcheeks had a booking agency called Blacklist booking so we got the name from that more or less. When did the band begin and how did it come about? It started in 2003 after a band named No Rights stopped playing, boys just wanna have fun. Thats how it came about. How would you describe your sound to the average Joe on the street? Fast, Slow, Violent, Angry, Noisy, Depressing, Hardcore, 90's Alt Rock. What’s your current release? Tell us a little about it… Our current release is called "Heavier Than Heaven, Lonelier Than God" Its an LP, Its out now on Deathwish Inc. Its another evolution in the life of Blacklisted. What image do you think / hope your music conveys? I have no expectations of that nature. If I had to nail down one, It would be that people would at least say that we wrote a good record. We're not superhero's and we dont think that our music is changing the world or anything to that effect, thinking like that is stupid because NO ONE is changing anything. Its all underground and hardcore (this type of hardcore) will never be mainstream. In five years time the band will be… Too hard to answer this question, Its already been about 5 years, so... OFF THE STAGE What was your first introduction to music that made you think seriously about playing it? 15 years old. Started playing drums, started dreaming (pipe dreaming), Played with guys in high school, had my first studio experience when I was 17 with the band I was in at the time and knew that I wanted to tour and make more records. What was your first band name and what style did you play? First band name was Decomposed. We played a style that was a mix of all the best Metal that we liked and since I was the only dude in the band who liked Hardcore we mixed it up with some harder type of slow parts. Tell us three albums you couldn’t live without in your collection I always find myself listening to Down 3 alot, so I guess that album. I always will listen to Led Zeppelin 2. Nirvana- In Utero. This answer can become so fickle though. Its hard to nail down three albums!! Best piece of musical advice you’ve been given Indirectly- I read an interview with Dave Grohl and he said to always make double cymbal hits (which means hit both your crashes as much as you can at the same time, its more powerful of an attack that way) Directly- Mackie from Cro-Mags/Bad Brains fame told me that when I play fast, Play FAST and when its time to play slow, Play SLOW. Two groups/artists you’d love to take out on the road Well, I would love for Converge to take US out on a full US. Other than that maybe Baroness or Torche. Favourite song of your group? Canonized or Always. The thing you most look forward to just before a tour is think you meant over at the end of that question? If so just going home and relaxing, I throw my body into hell and back when we're on the road so down time is cool for my body. The thing you least look forward to before a tour is Not playing shows everynight, You come home and are not in that go go go mode and you become restless and feel like you need to play super bad. When your not doing band related stuff, what are you usually found doing? Sitting around my house, watching tv, watching youtube, eating like once a day cause I have no appetite from doing nothing, Reading. Getting new music. Thats about it. ON THE STAGE / ROAD What gear do you use? Tama Starclassic Performer Drum Kit. Starclassic G series Maple Snare, Alchemy or Paiste Cymbals, Vater, Vic firth or Silverfox drumsticks. Anything that breaks pretty much is interchangable and when your on the road you gotta be able to take what you can get as long as it fits your needs close enough. Favourite place (city/town/country) you’ve toured… and why? Belgium is great. I love how its a Euro city but it has a more friendly vibe about it. They have great food and cool stuff to do and well..very cool people there that I am glad to say are great friends of mine. The best show you’ve ever played was… and why? Either Dec 15th 2007 back in Chicago or The last lintfrabriek show in Belgium or the last time we played either chain reaction in Anaheim or Gilman St in The bay area, California. All the above shows were totally insane. The Chain Reaction show was with Have Heart and we had to play 2 sets that night cause so many people came. Crazy! Who hogs the stereo in the van the most? I do because I sit up front the most. After a week in the van/bus on tour which band member will have the messiest section, and what would we most likely find stashed there? Well the guys in the band are pretty neat, The messiest part is the bin we have up front inbetween the driver seat and shotgun. We clean it out though often when it gets too shitty. Other than that if we bring a roadie (Chucky) He has shit everywhere, T-shirts, extra bags that he dont need with shit in it that he dont use and then has to ditch at an airport because he cant fly with that much shit. yeah, he gets pretty crazy when it comes to having stuff. Who in your group has the worst “bad habit” on tour, and what is it? Our guitarist Bean- He smokes. Nuff' said. Most embarrassing moment on tour? Every tour, everytime we have to interact with people. Anytime people try to be like "ohhh you guys...I didnt like you guys before, Thought you were assholes but now you guys are cool" Thats fucking embarrassing! Give us a good quick ‘on the road’ story, funny, embarrassing, memorable, whatever… Read above statement. Other than that The roadie that Ceremony had on a tour they did with us in the summer of 07 shit in a pool at a hotel one night, that was pretty fuckin gross but we all laughed at that. Your manager calls and says the venue you are about to play really wants to keep you happy, what’s the first thing you chuck on the rider? We dont have a manager. We dont get riders. We barely get water. RIGHT NOW What’s getting the most spins in your stereo right now? Graveyard, Chris Cornell Solo Music, Baroness, Torche. R.E.M. Tell us a band or artist everyone should check out and why… Let Down, They are a great young band from our area. They are fast, they are pissed, They are straight edge. They bring it live, Bob is an awesome front man. He bleeds for YOU on stage! haha. If you could change one thing about the music industry today, what would it be? Everything, I hate that bands that suck get huge, Bands that dont put in work get everything handed to them. I hate that people just settle for something thats popular and easy to listen to or sing along to-Whatever. I hate how tours with bigger bands are a bidding war and the winner is!!!!....The band who's label afford to pay for them to get on the big cool tour!! Yay!! Fuck that shit. I hate when bands that blow have 5000 dollar guarantees. As soon as I’ve finished answering these questions I’m about to… Go eat a Bagel and then take a shower and get dressed to sit around and do more of nothing. |
