ME VS YOU :::::: |
THE BASICS Name : Ned Jankovic Band : Me vs. You Job In Band : Guitars Website Address : myspace.com/mevsyouband HOME Hometown : The Hills in Sydney Hometown is best known for : Delta Goodrem.. :S Best thing about the music scene in your hometown : Our all ages scene.. mainly run by Hype who do an awesome job supporting all the local bands. Most influential band to yourself that’s come out of your home town : The Mission In Motion for sure.. they’ve done so much and put on such an amazing live show. Best up and coming band from your home town would be : 3 bands that stand out mostly right now are Envy Parade, My Name 4 Your Name and Hotel Charlie. Great people.. great music.. go listen to them now! THE BAND What’s the story behind the band name? There isn’t a huge story about it.. We had a massive list of band names and Me vs. You and 1 other band name were our best choices.. I cant remember what the name was but a Newcastle band already had it so we stuck with Me vs. You.. Never thought it would mean anything but since the formation of the band we have been working hard getting our name out there so it has brought along a whole new meaning of fighting our way into putting our stamp into the music scene. When did the band begin and how did it come about? Me, Raj (vocals) and Scott (bass) were friends for quite a while and strange enough our bands broke up around the same time… We all wanted to continue making music so decided to start a new band.. the other members were easy to find as well.. While it usually takes months to find the right people we found Smithers (guitars) and Geo (drums) in a month tops.. Everything just clicked! How would you describe your sound to the average Joe on the street? This has always been a hard one for me but basically a mix of Punk, Metal and alternative.. Clean vocals.. Heavy guitars (a good mix of metal and punk style) and a tight technical drum,bass section… We were once described as Evergreen Terrace without the screaming.. What’s your current release? Tell us a little about it… The Fear of Falling. which is out now through our myspace, shows.. And in a month be released throughout stores.. Recorded around December/January with the awesome Dave Hammer (Furcurve, Rex Banner, Elijah) at Von Hammer Studios . We consider it our first proper release even though we have one other EP out.. A lot more focused, We worked our asses getting it done. There are a few surprises in there, some guest vocals and even an acoustic track which we thought we’d never do… We are very proud of this release and is an awesome indication of the direction we will take into the future.. What image do you think / hope your music conveys? Ever since day one we have always been a band who thinks about the music first and foremost.. Not about image or trying to be famous. We are just a bunch of guys who want to be able to write music and to tour.. as simple as that!! So we always try to portray that you don’t hafta be the most fasionable or hardcore looking to be taken seriously.. Just write some rad tunes and have fun at your shows. In five years time the band will be… Touring overseas in a run down van earning no money but loving every damn minute of it! OFF THE STAGE What was your first introduction to music that made you think seriously about playing it? Seeing Deftones play my own summer (shove it) on Recovery. I cant describe how or what but that moment I said to myself I want to do that.. There wasn’t even a crowd infront of them and I still felt like I was there right in the front show.. I wanted to make that connection with people. What was your first band name and what style did you play? We were called Notion and it was a mix of Glassjaw/Deftones but sadly it just ended up sounding nu-metal Tell us three albums you couldn’t live without in your collection Deftones – Around The Fur Glassjaw – Everything you ever wanted to know about silence Protest The Hero - Fortress Best piece of musical advice you’ve been given If you truly love what you do don’t give up.. Two groups/artists you’d love to take out on the road Deftones for sure!! Id die a happy man right there. And Boys Night Out.. basicially the bands favourite band. Favourite song of your group? One of the newer songs off the new EP… I’d be Me If I were you. Killer track to play live! The thing you most look forward to just before a tour is Waiting for the van to arrive thinking about the trouble we will cause on tour. The thing you least look forward to before a tour is Trying to figure out what clothes to take and how to fit it in my damn bag When your not doing band related stuff, what are you usually found doing? Sadly working and playing xbox.. ON THE STAGE / ROAD What gear do you use? A Gibson Les Paul, Hughs and Ketner Trip Amp with a marshall cab with line 6 pedals. Favourite place (city/town/country) you’ve toured… and why? Canberra. The kids know to have a rad time at the shows! The best show you’ve ever played was… and why? Our First EP launch.. it was actually our 2nd show ever but we had an awesome turnout and had such a killer vibe! Wasn’t our best show peformance wise but overall to have all our friends hear our band for the first time that was awesome. Who hogs the stereo in the van the most? Raj.. Mainly cause its his van and he has the most music on his ipod… sometimes his choices can be quite questionable! After a week in the van/bus on tour which band member will have the messiest section, and what would we most likely find stashed there? Usually me or Smithers (other guitarist). A lot of junk food and way to many DVD’s Who in your group has the worst “bad habit” on tour, and what is it? Haha im not going to name names as I will get my ass whopped but il just say we are males and we arnt afraid to let out a bit of gas. Most embarrassing moment on tour? Our biggest hometown show infront of something with numbers.. Halfway through our first song our equipment failed and me and Smithers had to fix our amps for 5 mins… Give us a good quick ‘on the road’ story, funny, embarrassing, memorable, whatever… We were doing a quick East coast tour and did one show in Canberra. We were quite excited but ended up being our worst show ever… after arriving we found out there was no PA. We were able to hire a vocal only PA. To top that off only 30 kids turned out..So during our set our bass player is doing sound WHILE paying and to make things worse I accidently smack Smithers in the mouth with my guitar!! Boy what a night that was Your manager calls and says the venue you are about to play really wants to keep you happy, what’s the first thing you chuck on the rider? Jager Bombs… Quite dangerous before a gig but who can resist them? RIGHT NOW What’s getting the most spins in your stereo right now? The new closure in Moscow EP. I can not to stress enough about how amazing this band is and they’ve captured such an amazing sound on CD. Tell us a band or artist everyone should check out and why… Closure in Moscow.. One of our favourite Aus bands to date.. They can never disappoint and are the nicest dudes. I don’t want to say to much id just say to listen to them on myspace.com/closureinmoscow and u will know why we love them so much If you could change one thing about the music industry today, what would it be? More all ages shows for sure.. The kids are starving for some new music and there are some amazing bands out now who havnt had a chance to showcase the music. As soon as I’ve finished answering these questions I’m about to… Head off to my local pub to see some awesome local bands |
