HOME
Hometown
: Brisbane, Australia
Hometown is best known for : having a 3am lock down and an abundance of doof doof clubs
Best venue in your hometown : the best venues to play would have to be Rosies or 299 as they have such a great PA and it sounds massive on stage. From an audiences perspective I would say anywhere small without a stage like the Mt Gravatt PCYC or Fat Louies is always fun to go see a band and get right up in their face.

THE BAND
How long has the band been going?
We started in mid 2005, so almost 5 years now. We sucked when we started though, I mean, really sucked. I feel like we have only been a ‘real’ band since we started writing Disaster Zone back at the start of 2009.
Many lineup changes along the way? Dude, so many. We have always had the same core 4 members but we used to have a different singer, then we kicked him out and our bass player started signing for us. Since then we have been through about 7 different bass players.
How would you describe your sound to the average person on the street? If you mean ‘average person’ as if in someone who has no knowledge of heavy music, I would just call it heavy metal because it all sounds the same to them. But to someone who knows a bit about heavy sub-genres I would probably say mosh metal/hardcore with heaps of energy and lots of heavy parts and breakdowns.
What's your most recent release? Tell us a little about it... That would be ‘Disaster Zone’. It’s definitely our strongest release yet in terms of production, songwriting and cohesiveness. Lyrically it is mostly angry and bitter but with a breath of positivity hidden underneath it all. The artwork was done by Bill Hauser and it is really detailed, he did an amazing job!
Got a favourite track that you have released so far? Not really… ‘Lest We Forget’ is probably the most fun to play.

OFF THE STAGE
What was your first introduction to music that made you think seriously about playing it?
In grade 10 some guys in a grade 12 band asked me to learn 2 songs for this rock school performance thing. We did a Sunk Loto and a 28 days cover and they were the first bands I heard which opened my eyes up to heavier music than Eminem and whatever other lame shit I was listening to at the time (who am I kidding, I still like Eminem).
What was your first band name, and what style did you play? Time Has Come was my first band and we still play the same style of music we played 5 years ago. We are just better at it now.
Most prized music related item you own? Probably this really really old Sunk Loto poster from a gig they played at a now defunct venue called ‘The Rev’ I have hanging on my wall.
The thing you most look forward to just before a tour is... the last day of work before tour.
The thing you least look forward to before a tour is... organizing vans.
When your not doing band related stuff, what are you usually found doing? I haven’t had too much time that hasn’t been band related lately so when I’m not busy I will usually be veging out watching old Disney movies with my girlfriend. Either that or getting drunk and watching other bands haha.

ON THE STAGE / ROAD
Best rider item you've ever received without requesting it?
Rider? Hahaha I think the best thing we’ve got is free beers. We have never requested a rider.
Favourite place (city/town/country) you’ve toured… and why? We’ve played a few really good places on tour and for me the ones that stand out are the ones that have had a really welcoming vibe from their ‘hardcore community’. These would be in Blacktown, Canberra and Christchurch.
Most memorable show you've played? and why? I would have to say the show we played recently with Shai Hulud. Why? Because it was with fucking Shai Hulud! That and the audience went crazy and we played really well. Also, SH’s singer moshed to us hahaha
Worst 'guilty pleasure' artist / song you've come across on a bandmates iPod? Our guitarist has heaps of terrible bands on his iPod like Alien Ant Farm and just the worst one hit wonder bands from the 90’s. He claims that it’s all music off his friends iTunes but we know he’s just a teenage dirtbag baby.
Who in your group has the worst “bad habit” on tour, and what is it? Our other guitarist, Tom. He gets way too drunk way early on before anyone has even started and we all have to put up with him talking shit. I remember in NZ he was swiging on a bottle of Galiano before it was even 10am yet.

RIGHT NOW

Where are you?
Laying on my lounge room floor.
What's the last song you listened to? I just listened to Promises new EP, Hopeless Sons. Check them out.
Which band or album is currently rockin' your world? Right now I can’t get enough of Deftones new album Diamond Eyes.
Tell us a band we should all go and listen to right now? Go and check out these Australian bands: A Secret Death, Gatherer, Driven Fear, Brazen Bull, To The North, Mary Jane Kelly, The Amenta and May. Support Australian bands!

IF ONLY...
If you could pick any one album to cover from start to finish, what would it be and why?
Ohh man I would have to say You Come Before You or The Tropic Rot by Poison The Well but I would want to cover one on vocals because every song on those albums are so solid! Their singer has an amazing voice and I want to be him haha
If you could pick any one band / artist to cover one of your albums from start to finish, what would it be, and why? I would choose Driven Fear to cover one of our early demos because we have played shows with those guys since the start and I would like to hear them play our songs at 200 bpm.
If you could pick one band to re-unite so you could play a one-off show with, who would it be, and why? Shotpointblank, and I think that would be the same for everyone in THC. In the early days SPB were definitely our biggest influence and had a huge part to do with what we have become.
One big tour, you can take two currently active bands to support you, who would you choose, and why? Remembering Never because they fucking rule and Hatebreed because they are heavy as fuck!
