THE BAND
How long has the band been going? 4 and a bit years
Many lineup changes along the way? Just the one –
our sound-guy, a former drummer, became our keyboardist/guitarist
a few years back.
How would you describe your sound to the average person on
the street? World Rock – it was made for everyone,
even street people.
What's your most recent release? Tell us a little about it...
Our debut album, The Brave Don’t Run – we spent
our life-savings and university funds to record it in New York so
we could get pissed with red and blue cups in the studio.
Got a favourite track that you have released so far?
Cavalry. It’s a rock song that best represents our live show
– plus we managed to rip off Shania Twain in there somewhere.
OFF THE STAGE
What was your first introduction to music that made you think seriously
about playing it? The teacher that led the big band at my
school asked me to sing for them, despite me never having sung by
myself in front of anyone before. I sang Easy by Faith No More and
I became instantly addicted to the feeling of playing a live show.
What was your first band name, and what style did you play?
It was a Black Metal band called Diablerie – my throat bled,
I quit.
Most prized music related item you own? A Star of
David shaped tamborine.
The thing you most look forward to just before a tour is...
eating takeaways every day under the guise of the myth that ‘you
can’t eat healthily whilst on tour’.
The thing you least look forward to before a tour is...
spending money on vitamin supplements to balance my KFC addiction.
When your not doing band related stuff, what are you usually
found doing? I brew my own Tequila which takes up a lot of
time.
ON THE STAGE / ROAD
Best rider item you've ever received without requesting it?
A sheep – apparantly Australians like to indulge people with
NZ heritage…
Favourite place (city/town/country) you’ve toured…
and why? The US – we became entangled with some of
the NYC mafia who loved our music and went on to upgrade our accomm
to 5-star places for the rest of the tour!
Most memorable show you've played? and why? New Years
09/10 – we had pyro on stage and our bassist’s brother
almost lost his ability to procreate when the flame cannons went off.
Worst 'guilty pleasure' artist / song you've come across on
a bandmates iPod? Nick has Miley Cyrus on there… and
high school musical… plus posters on his bedroom wall…
he’s leaving the band… soon
Who in your group has the worst “bad habit” on
tour, and what is it? Our drummer, Aidan, thinks eating seafood
is THE way to keep healthy on tour – so we have empty and unwashed
tuna / mussel / octopus tins lying around our accomm and van quite
often.
RIGHT NOW
Where are you? In our band flat, watching The Verve live
at Glastonbury – Richard Ashcroft is a god.
What's the last song you listened to? This is Music
– The Verve.
Which band or album is currently rockin' your world?
Get Well Soon – German mood-rock. Think a mix between The Dears
and The National.
Tell us a band we should all go and listen to right now?
The Veils, incredible live, incredible recorded.
IF ONLY...
If you could pick any one album to cover from start to finish, what
would it be and why? I think the best albums should never
be covered as they’re already perfect and un-improvable –
but if I had to do it I’d go for a male-vocal, electric version
of Blue by Joni Mitchell.
If you could pick any one band / artist to cover one of your
albums from start to finish, what would it be, and why? Wilco
– they’re some of the best musicians I’ve ever seen
and they have so many faces they can express so well.
If you could pick one band to re-unite so you could play a
one-off show with, who would it be, and why? Oasis –
so we could play, and witness, crazy shows and eventually make millions
from a book about the whole fucked up on-tour relationship between
the Gallagher brothers.
One big tour, you can take two currently active bands to support
you, who would you choose, and why? It would have to be a
sonic journey - So a Ryan Adams acoustic set to kick things off, followed
by Elbow to warm things up before we play our full-on rock set. |
