THE
BAND
How long has the band been going?
4 years of highs , lows and a hell of a lot of fun.
Many lineup changes along the way? None, hopefully
ever.
How would you describe your sound to the average person on
the street? What I usually say to people that ask this complicated
question is think Rush, think King Crimson, think Yes, now combine
them with the backstreet boys and soul music.
What's your most recent release? First Temple is
our full length debut on Equal Vision Records, it was recorded in
the states whilst we were over there and is our baby. It is a record
that shows all of our individual personalities and is an absolute
please to play live every night.
Got a favourite track that you have released so far?
A Night at the spleen is one of my favourites, it has the most soul
to me, and I’m all about soul.
OFF THE STAGE
What was your first introduction to music that made you think seriously
about playing it? My grandfather, he was a famous composer
and musician back in Europe, he died and all I had was his tapes that
I used to listen to since I can remember. He made me decide I wanted
to do this and create art.
What was your first band name, and what style did you play?
Oh man, well being from Melbourne and being young of course it was
a metal band. But ofcourse we were a melodic metal band, a different
type, completely original right. I’d rather not say the name,
kind of embarrassing.
Most prized music related item you own? My grandfather’s
Ud, which is a Turkish instrument kind of like something between a
guitar and a bouzouki . It’s super hard to play.
The thing you most look forward to just before a tour is
playing music to a new bunch of people, meeting those new people and
spending a lot of that time with some of my best friends in the world.
The thing you least look forward to before a tour is
van/bus problems, lack of showers, sleep deprivation, parties.
When your not doing band related stuff, what are you usually
found doing? Besides video games, I love spending time with
friends that I normally don’t get to see all that often due
to touring commitments. I love a good coffee too.
ON THE STAGE / ROAD
Best rider item you've ever received without requesting it?
Oh man, the best rider we have ever received was in Japan, those guys
really know how to treat you. Fresh bento boxes and an array of drink,
including alcohol and just everything great, that as a band you don’t
normally expect to see. The standard water and beer is what 90% of
bands get
Favourite place (city/town/country) you’ve toured…
and why? My favourite place we have toured was Japan, the
shows were sold out, the cities were intense , the people we met were
all great and the food was just amazing. I would live there.
Most memorable show you've played? and why? School
of Rock in New Jersey, that show had our bass players family in the
crowd, they flew over form Aus, and the crowd in general were going
crazy. I truly felt at one with them that show, and with the entire
band. Sounds wanky but it’s true.
Worst 'guilty pleasure' artist / song you've come across on
a bandmates iPod? Oh man, the rest of the guys listen to
some pretty cool stuff, I’m the guy who drops the cheesy euro
dance hits and r. Kelly. But Chris has a Christmas album of one of
our friends that is most definitely a guilty pleasure.
Who in your group has the worst “bad habit” on
tour, and what is it? Some people don’t shower as often
as they should, not gonna name names in thte interest of my safety,
but definitely that.
RIGHT
NOW
Where are you?
Sitting on one of those chuck Norris home gym things writing this
at my house in the Gold Coast.
What's
the last song you listened to?
Gunther – Tutty frutty summerlove (I love this guy, its so bad
it’s good)
Which band or album is currently rockin' your world?
Vecktimist - Grizzly bear
Tell us a band we should all go and listen to right now?
Besides our band, some great Australian bands such as Secrets in Scale
from Adelaide. I heard their debut album the other day, and holy shit
is it good. Check them out.
IF ONLY...
If you could pick any one album to cover from start to finish, what
would it be and why? As tall as lions – self titled,
that band just gets me, I love every song, I also have the pleasure
of knowing them on a personal level, which is great aswell.
If
you could pick any one band / artist to cover one of your albums from
start to finish, what would it be, and why?
I would pick mute math to cover first temple. I would like to hear
that. They have both the goods and the talent to make anything sound
amazing.
If
you could pick one band to re-unite so you could play a one-off show
with, who would it be, and why?
Queen, but that would mean some pretty gnarly voodoo resurrection
magic would be going on so I don’t know if I would want to be
a part of it. But Queen, most definitely.
One
big tour, you can take two currently active bands to support you,
who would you choose, and why?
At the moment I would choose circa survive and thrice, probably not
going to happen anytime soon, but you never know? |
