THE BAND
How long has the band been going?

The band has been going in its current form for nearly two years. The other guys in the band are brothers so I guess they have been playing since birth so 22 years.
Many lineup changes along the way?
Only one. When I joined nearly two years ago. The previous bass player developed Leprosy and lost three very important fingers.
How would you describe your sound to the average person on the street?
I am not one to associate with Average Joe’s, but if I had to I would say we are ‘high energy Rock&Roll’.
What's your most recent release? Tell us a little about it...
Most recent release is our debut album ‘Hold, Hold, Fire’ It as been a long time in the works as most debuts are. It contains eleven tracks and even a small tasteful amount of effected piano. It’s a rock record from start to finish.
Got a favourite track that you have released so far?
My favourite track would be the title track ‘Hold, Hold, Fire’ It feels good to play live and I get to live out my long lost dream of being a front man and sing a little bit.

OFF THE STAGE
What was your first introduction to music that made you think seriously about playing it?

I got into ‘About Time’ by Pennywise when I was in high school and it made a huge impact on me. It was fast, melodic and angst ridden. Shortly after that I picked up a bass guitar and slowly made my way from there.
What was your first band name, and what style did you play?
First band was called Relapse and we played energetic pop rock very badly. Think shitty 15 year olds ripping off Weezer, Placebo, Jebediah.
Most prized music related item you own?
My fender Jazz bass. I fucking love it and unless I develop a harsh meth addiction, I think I will have it for the rest of my life.
The thing you most look forward to just before a tour is...
being able to play a show nearly every night, party afterwards and leave town the next day before the repercussions of the previous night ever catch up with you.
The thing you least look forward to before a tour is...
not being able to cook.
When your not doing band related stuff, what are you usually found doing?
Band related stuff basically consumes me right me. I do enjoy cooking and drinking coffee in Brunswick.

ON THE STAGE / ROAD
Best rider item you've ever received without requesting it?

Supporting Green Day in Auckland. Holy Shit. It was our already excessive rider plus a WHOLE lot more. Three men can only drink so much. I think the promoter may have been under the impression we were a shitty nine-piece Ska band.
Favourite place (city/town/country) you’ve toured… and why?
Perth. The average of attractive girls in Perth is much higher than anywhere else in Australia.
Most memorable show you've played? and why?
2nd Sydney AC/DC show. We had the best show of our short career and it happened to be in front of 60,000 people. We got lucky.
Worst 'guilty pleasure' artist / song you've come across on a bandmates iPod?
It would definitely be our drummer James’ Ipod. The artist would be some prog drumming wanker playing annoying grooves with no feel and vibe.
Who in your group has the worst “bad habit” on tour, and what is it?
I would say it is our sound guy / Tour manager Mick. He feels the need to talk ALL the time. He never shuts up. We encourage him to smoke as much pot as possible for obvious reasons.

RIGHT NOW
Where are you?

In Narnia.
What's the last song you listened to?
I’m listening to the radio and Bertie Blackman’s new track just came on. It’s a cover but she owns it.
Which band or album is currently rockin' your world?
True Colours by Split Enz will forever rock my world.
Tell us a band we should all go and listen to right now?
DZ from Brisbane. We just toured with them and they are bangin’. Check out this video they did.

IF ONLY...
If you could pick any one album to cover from start to finish, what would it be and why?

I think it would be Rated R by Queens Of The Stone Age. Such a good record and there is a lot of variation between song styles so you we would never get bored.
If you could pick any one band / artist to cover one of your albums from start to finish, what would it be, and why?
Again, QOTSA. They have more feel and groove than most white boys out there.
If you could pick one band to re-unite so you could play a one-off show with, who would it be, and why?
At The Drive In. Like most people my age, I fully embraced that band and took a lot of inspiration from them.
One big tour, you can take two currently active bands to support you, who would you choose, and why?
Fangs! from Melbourne because those guys go really hard and they make us feel better about our borderline Alcoholism and Queens of the Stone Age because I have a harsh man crush on the entire band and would get to see them play every night.
