STEALING O'NEAL :::::: |
THE BASICS Name : Tim O’Keefe Band : Stealing O’neal Job in Band : Guitar Website Address : myspace.com/stealingoneal HOME Hometown : Melbourne Hometown is best known for : its great weather, nah its cold here Best thing about the music scene in your hometown : I guess it would be the fact that you can catch a live band every night of the week in Melbourne Most influential band to yourself that’s come out of your home town : I would say Kiss Chasy, back in the day I would go and see them play to 10 people at the art house now look at them. Best up and coming band from your home town would be : I am Spartacus, they recently relocated to Melbourne from Ballarat. Defiantly worth checking out, the singers hot. THE BAND What’s the story behind the band name? Long story short – playing our first show with no name, luckily back stage there was a life cardboard cut of Shaqille O’neal. So we stole it and the rest is history. When did the band begin and how did it come about? School played a big part back in 2003, we have lost and gained a few members to form the right formula of what we have today How would you describe your sound to the average Joe on the street? I would tell Joe our sound is pop music and rock music What’s your current release? Tell us a little about it… our current release is a new one. Collidescope, it’s our 2nd ep that we recorded in Sydney with Luke Webb. The recording process was a lot more professional then our last release and my mum likes it so I guess that’s a good sign. What image do you think / hope your music conveys? Maybe they see us as fun and I hope its fun. I know for a fact that when we get on the road there is always mischievous fun to be had. In five years time the band will be, hopefully writing hit songs that can be as good as Spice Girls “Wannabe” I love that song. But at the end of the day I would love to be still exploring our country while showing people our music. OFF THE STAGE What was your first introduction to music that made you think seriously about playing it? I remember this clearly, in 1998 I heard dammit – blink 182 and from that second onwards I was a little pop/punk kid – stretched ears, sideward hat – the works What was your first band name and what style did you play? My first band was called miscellaneous. We were a 3 piece and we ripped off every thing blink. Tell us three albums you couldn’t live without in your collection my picks are, Jimmy Eat World – Bleed American Blink 182 – Dude Ranch and Postal Service – Postal Service Best piece of musical advice you’ve been given it was an interview I read, not to sure who it was but it was how do you get invited to play a festival show and the advice was don’t ever steal the headliners rider. I just want to clear things up and apologize to New Found Glory… Two groups/artists you’d love to take out on the road love to tour with the getaway plan again, we went to school with those kids so the tour is party before it even starts. Also Capeside, we like a good time and they know how make one. Favourite song of your group? Um… bedroom eyes, I’m good at rocking out to that one. The thing you most look forward to just before a tour is not knowing what kind of trouble we are going to get into this time round. The thing you least look forward to before a tour is the drive, 20 hours straight driving - Melbourne to Brisbane When your not doing band related stuff, what are you usually found doing? Watching Australia’s next top model, I quite enjoy that show ON THE STAGE / ROAD What gear do you use? I have a Marshall TSL and the guitar I’m using is Tom’s my bass players, but never fear tom I’m on the look out for guitar to call my very own Favourite place (city/town/country) you’ve toured… and why? We did Perth 2months ago and the enthusiasm of the crowds was crazy, it’s a bountiful part of the country too. Can’t wait to get back there. The best show you’ve ever played was… and why? Coke live and local in 06, rod laver arena to over 6000 people. It was such a surreal experience, we were treated like rock stars for the day. It gave us a real drive to earn that sort of level in the music industry. Who hogs the stereo in the van the most? It be honest no one, we are all into the same tunes. After a week in the van/bus on tour which band member will have the messiest section, and what would we most likely find stashed there? Good question, well I would have to say Ryan his section is the whole van, you will find his shoes, wallet, phone scatted all around the already messy van. Who in your group has the worst “bad habit” on tour, and what is it? Ryan once again wins this one, when ever we are about to leave and drive to the next venue. He will nick off for a bite to eat. I guess he leaves it to the last minute quite a bit. Most embarrassing moment on tour? This was at a show years ago, Chris introduced every member of the band individually. The crowd would cheer for each of us. After our intro’s I introduced Chris and the crowed gave a silent response. We have it on video, it’s awesome. Give us a good quick ‘on the road’ story, funny, embarrassing, memorable, whatever… well one tour my plan was to get nude in front of every over sized tourist attrition and take a photo. I only did it once in front of the Big Banana. I’m actually going to finish it one day. Your manager calls and says the venue you are about to play really wants to keep you happy, what’s the first thing you chuck on the rider? An assortment of starbursts would be nice, a few slabs, maybe some sandwiches and pizzas for later on. RIGHT NOW What’s getting the most spins in your stereo right now? Thrice – the alchemy index, air and earth Tell us a band or artist everyone should check out and why… I told you this earlier – I am Spartacus, don’t asked why just do it. If you could change one thing about the music industry today, what would it be? To keep cd sales alive, it’s getting harder and harder every day to sell records with the Constant downloading and itunes doesn’t help by selling their songs for cheaper then what a cd single would generate. As soon as I’ve finished answering these questions I’m about to have some spaghetti bolognese with cheese and then might take a hot steaming bath |
