Best thing about the music scene in your hometown : Allot of good hardcore bands were starting out when i was growing up so i go to see a lot of bands that play huge shows now on a much smaller level. Most influential band to yourself that¹s come out of your home town : Nigel Six Best up and coming band from your home town would be : no idea THE BAND What's the story behind the band name? Dropkick Murphy's was one of the OG dry out clinics in the boston area. I think it was meant to keep alcoholics in check more than to sober them up... When did the band begin and how did it come about? It came out of a dare and some practices in the basement of a barbershop. How would you describe your sound to the average Joe on the street? We're kind of an irish-punk band, i guess. I like to think of it as more of just a rock band with some extra bells and whistles... What's your current release? Tell us a little about it... Current release is "The Meanest Of Times." It's definitely something that we're all pretty proud of, i think. This is the first time we've had a record that feels so complete from beginning to end. It's not a concept so much as a theme, i would say. What image do you think / hope your music conveys? We just want everyone that's at the shows and listening to the songs to have a good time and enjoy what they're hearing. we just try to sing about our own experiences and hope that people can connect to that. In five years time the band will be... On the road OFF THE STAGE What was your first introduction to music that made you think seriously about playing it? Bruce Springsteen and the E-Street Band. My dad had the live record and when i heard "darkness on the edge of town" i realized that music could make you feel something, y'know? I think that might have been when... What was your first band name and what style did you play? First band was "Say uncle" and we were a punk/ska hybrid. incredibly original. Tell us three albums you couldn't live without in your collection.. Two groups/artists you'd love to take out on the road Ted Leo & The Pharmacists, The Rolling Stones (i'm not sure they have much of a draw...) Favourite song of your group? Rude Awakenings The thing you most look forward to just before a tour is... Getting to hang out with all my friends in our crew. The thing you least look forward to before a tour is... Flying anywhere When your not doing band related stuff, what are you usually found doing? Watching t.v. with my dog, Delmar. ON THE STAGE / ROAD What gear do you use? A lot of fender stuff, some gibson and some goldtone Favourite place (city/town/country) you've toured and why? I love the bay area in California just because of the weather... The best show you've ever played was, and why? They've all blended together... it would take me a while to come up with that! Who hogs the stereo in the van the most? James and Marc do a lot of d.j-ing, but everyone contributes. we have a pretty good system. After a week in the van/bus on tour which band member will have the messiest section, and what would we most likely find stashed there? Marc. all sorts of wet clothes, computer things...maybe a guitar Who in your group has the worst 'bad habit' on tour, and what is it? We've all adapted our lifestyles to suit one another, so we don't have too may problems... Most embarrassing moment on tour? I walked into a glass door while trying to walk into a truck stop one night. if anyone missed it in the store, they saw it on the security camera... Give us a good quick 'on the road' story, funny, embarrassing, memorable, whatever.. We are honestly the lamest band you'll ever meet! we don't have to many stories... Your manager calls and says the venue you are about to play really wants to keep you happy, what¹s the first thing you chuck on the rider? socks? RIGHT NOW What's getting the most spins in your stereo right now? The band, Ryan Adams, Bruce Springsteen... Tell us a band or artist everyone should check out and why... The Aggrolites...they're an amazing reggae band from LA and they're the nicest guys. we love taking them out with us. get that crowd dancin! If you could change one thing about the music industry today, what would it be? Luckily, i just stick to the music playing. i don't have to deal much with "the industry." hopefully i can keep it that way! As soon as I've finished answering these questions I'm about to finish drinking my bottle of water. |
