Hometown is best known for : Great live music scene!
Best thing about the music scene in your hometown : You can watch quality music 7 nights a week at various quality venues, it makes finding new music very easy!
Most influential band to yourself that’s come out of your home town : Blueline Medic - great band that is very inspiring to watch and listen to and they have a unique sound that reminds me of Melbourne.
Best up and coming band from your home town would be : Responder – I’m sure everyone will know about them soon if they haven’t already!

THE BAND
What’s the story behind the band name?

Basically we all learnt music from a teacher named Mark Kennedy at different stages of our lives, in our late teens we started playing together and thought it would be a great idea to pay respect to him with the band name as he pushed us in our musical direction. The name is a bit of a play on words with how we all trialed Mr.Kennedy!

When did the band begin and how did it come about?
We started playing together when we were about 17, but we got serious about songwriting and our band about 5 or so years ago when we put out our first Ep ‘Present for a Day’ out!

How would you describe your sound to the average Joe on the street?
Hardest question ever, but when we were recording we asked Nick our producer to describe our sound for us and this is his response. A cross between a pop Radiohead and early U2, don’t know if it’s correct but we’ll take it!

What’s your current release? Tell us a little about it…
Our album ‘New manic Art’ which comes out May 31st, go buy it and find out! Kidding, it’s basically a collection of 11 songs that we cut down from 15 or so that we thought worked best as an album. A group of songs that work as a collective!

What image do you think / hope your music conveys?
A bunch of good mates who really get a kick out of writing and playing music together and not taking themselves to seriously.

In five years time the band will be…
Still broke!!!!!!

OFF THE STAGE
What was your first introduction to music that made you think seriously about playing it?

Our first tour with Gyroscope, such a hard working band and they really believed in us and pushed us to keep touring!

What was your first band name and what style did you play?
Mindtrap, we had one song and it was called ‘Death or dishonour’. It doesn’t beat Timmy’s first band though, ‘Zangel’.

Tell us three albums you couldn’t live without in your collection
Weezer, blue album.
Black Sabbath, Paranoid.
Oasis, (What’s the story) Morning Glory.

Best piece of musical advice you’ve been given
quit guitar and play drums. From Mark kennedy!

Two groups/artists you’d love to take out on the road
Capeside – Responder.

Favourite song of your group?
Would have to be ‘Sunday Warning’ from our new record, fun to play and fun to listen to!

The thing you most look forward to just before a tour is
Catching up with buddies from various states that you usually haven’t seen in a while!

The thing you least look forward to before a tour is
Knowing that I wont get very much sleep, that gets me depressed!

When your not doing band related stuff, what are you usually found doing?
Enjoying home time with the lady!!!!

ON THE STAGE / ROAD
What gear do you use?

Gas drums and Sabian cymbals.

Favourite place (city/town/country) you’ve toured… and why?
Always enjoy playing shows in Adelaide, we have good friends there and the crowds are always excellent.

The best show you’ve ever played was… and why?
The Corner Hotel with Horsell Common, it was Leigh’s last show and that made it an extremely special night!

Who hogs the stereo in the van the most?
No one really, if you’re riding shot gun you choose the music that the driver will enjoy….always gotta look after the driver!

After a week in the van/bus on tour which band member will have the messiest section, and what would we most likely find stashed there?
Um probably me, you would find a lot of drool and pillows.

Who in your group has the worst “bad habit” on tour, and what is it?
It’s not really a habit but Stacey and myself snore and the other two really can’t stand it.

Most embarrassing moment on tour?
Last night in Brisbane I spat on myself, accidently of course. A had a large bit of slag hanging off my arm and I couldn’t get it off as it was mid song, don’t know if anyone could see but I felt rather silly!

Give us a good quick ‘on the road’ story, funny, embarrassing, memorable, whatever…
Last tour with Horsell, once again Leigh’s last tour. Just really special and it was great spending 3 weeks with those fellas again.

Your manager calls and says the venue you are about to play really wants to keep you happy, what’s the first thing you chuck on the rider? Coopers beer and top notch vegan sandwiches.

RIGHT NOW
What’s getting the most spins in your stereo right now?

Eddy Current Suppression Ring – Primary Colours.

Tell us a band or artist everyone should check out and why…
We’re about to take Calling all Cars on tour, they’re a top band that people will love!

If you could change one thing about the music industry today, what would it be?
Would love the government to look after bands a bit more with some government grants, would make it a lot easier for touring unsigned bands to get out and about.

As soon as I’ve finished answering these questions I’m about to…
Go to all you can eat Japanese before heading down to the goldie.
