– Description –
This song is about a woman who is lamenting over a certain photograph she finds of herself and her former lover, a perpetrator of domestic violence. In this song I wanted to describe the photograph to create the picture in the mind of the listener whilst trying to capture the emotions that she would be experiencing. (Confusion, regret, fear, relief, self depreciation & anger) I also wanted to represent those emotions in the music itself. This song is reflective of my experiences as a child, living with an abusive step father but in this situation the power is in the woman’s hands and she is finally free and strong.

OLD PHOTOGRAPH
In this faded photograph,
we are standing in the back yard,
by the lemon tree.
With my arms by my side,
and a timid smile,
your right arm wrapped around me.
I’ve never noticed these clouds before,
or the dry lawn
dried up like my love.
I always noticed something was wrong,
your eyes began to storm,
your rage reigned over.
Now you’re gone
And I feel strong
Now you’re gone
Ain’t it funny how memories fade?
Some fester with age,
some never wash away.
Well, I’m throwing this reminder out,
with all the good you held down.
I’ll try to forget it all.
Now you’re gone
And I feel strong
Now you’re gone
But it’s hard to forget,
most nights I wake,
with my hands around my neck.
What this mind won’t erase,
this tongue will forever taste,
the warm blood of it all.
