Having just signed a worldwide multi-album with US record label Brutal Bands, Brisbane’s Disentomb are set for a busy future, beginning right away. This week they will head out on tour supporting Cannibal Corpse and then jump straight on board a bunch of the Bastardfest shows around the county. This week in The Hotseat, we catch up with vocalist Jord. Expand this post to take a read, and re-cap all their upcoming dates. The Cannibal Corpse tour begins in Adelaide this Thursday.

Hometown : Brisbane
Hometown is best known for: Hosting some of the best extreme metal in Australia, Portal, Astriaal and Impetuous Ritual.
Best venue in your hometown : The Hi-Fi.
Favourite show you’ve seen in your hometown: Portal at the Globe.
Favourite show you’ve played in your hometown : Dying Fetus / Napalm Death at the Hi-Fi.
How did the band first come to exist? The drummer, Henri the guitarist Jake and I met in an old band called Cadaverine in high school.
How long has the band been going? Just over three years now.
Any particular story behind the name? It’s a Disgorge song and we’re all major Disgorge fans so it fit.
What’s your most recent release? Tell us a little about it… the 2012 Promo. We recently signed to Brutal Bands in the US, and we wanted to give fans a glimpse of our new music considering it is a big step up from our 2010 debut album, Sunken Chambers of Nephilim.
Got a personal stand out achievement of your band to date? Within two years we had released a successful 2009 promo, a full length album, toured Australia and Europe with some of our favourite bands. Within three years we had been announced to tour Australia with Cannibal Corpse. A lot of what we have done feels surreal.
OFF THE STAGE
What was your first introduction to music that made you think seriously about playing it? The first Death Metal album I ever bought was Morbid Angel’s Formula’s Fatal To The Flesh when I was 13, it made me want to create something as heavy and obscure as that.
Any particular band / album or song that you personally credit as a major influence? For Disentomb’s sound and style, Disgorge. They’re the best in the Brutal Death Metal scene, intense live and the most insane music.
Your first band name, and what style did you play? Wounds of Decay, we played rip off Cannibal Corpse music.
Most prized music related item you own? My first Death Metal shirt from when I was 14, my Cannibal Corpse ‘Butchered At Birth’ shirt. It’s grey now, I wore that shirt so much.
When you’re not doing band related stuff, what are you usually found doing? I’m usually in the gym or doing my everyday job as a reporter for a newspaper.
The thing you most look forward to just before a tour is… Making playlists for the roadtrip, meeting up with friends in each city.
The thing you least look forward to before a tour is… Organising bulk merch, logistics etc etc.
ON THE STAGE
When on offer, what’s your one must have item on the rider? Water and heaps of it, we don’t really expect too much else.
Favourite place you’ve toured… and why? Switzerland, the scenery there is amazing and we played with some of the best bands in the Brutal DM scene when we were there.
Most memorable show you’ve played? and why? Same as above, when we played Mountains of Death Open Air alongside Defeated Sanity, Wormed, Putridity and Disgorge.
Got a favourite song to play live? One of our new songs, Forced Adornment of The Funerary Crown.
Any embarrassing on stage moments come to mind? Not particularly, thank fuck but the upcoming Cannibal Corpse and Bastardfest tours might change that.
Any pre-show rituals? No alcohol, no weed, stay hydrated, stretch a fuckload and take a scoop of Craze.
What do you find is the hardest aspect of touring in a band today? The money side of things, but if you’re a determined band, wanting to put yourself forward it’s necessary.
Last song you listened to? Cryptopsy’s Two Pound Torch
Which band or album is currently on high rotation? Broken Hope’s Swamped In Gore hasn’t left my car for ages.
Tell us an up and coming band or artist you think we should go and listen to right now? Iconic Vivisect, amazing Brutal Death Metal from Melbourne.
What’s on the cards for the next few months for the band? Constant touring with Cannibal Corpse and the Bastardfest tours and then finish writing our second album.
You can pick any one album for your band to cover in full, what would it be and why? Disgorge – Consume The Forsaken. We all love that album so fucking much.
You can pick any one band / artist to cover one of your albums in full, what would it be, and why? Defeated Sanity, it’d be interesting to see their take on the songs.
One band you wish you were able to see live but never had the chance? Brodequin. Hopefully a reunion tour will come about in a few years.
One venue you have yet to play that you would love to? The Globe in Brisbane but sadly it has shut down.
The chance comes up to fill in for a member of a band for one tour, which band would it be, and why? Defeated Sanity, I’d love to lay down some gutturals over their music.
A headline tour overseas comes up, tell us two bands you’d take along to support your band. The Mung and Iconic Vivisect. Best dudes, best music so it’d be an amazing tour.
Got any final words? Check out Disentomb on tour throughout Australia in October with Cannibal Corpse and throughout the East Coast in late October and early November with Bastardfest. The earth will be scorched.
