Name : Richie Newman
Band : Buried In Verona
Job In Band : Guitarist/vocals
Website Address : or

Hometown : Engadine, Sydney
Hometown is best known for : I think my hometown is best known for the lack of shoes on people’s feet in public haha
Best venue in your hometown : Probably the Engadine Tavern haha…. there is not many “venues” here
Favourite show you’ve seen in your hometown : Parkway Drive at Engadine Community Hall
Favourite show you’ve played in your hometown : I have actually never played a hometown show, closest would be a suburb away in Sutherland!

How did the band first come to exist? I joined Buried In Verona late, I’m pretty sure all of the boys met at high school and had the same friend groups!
How long has the band been going? The band had been going for about 3 years before the new lineup! and the new lineup has been going for around 1 and a half years!
Any particular story behind the name? The bands name had come from one of the old members getting all emo and thinking it was cool to tie in the Romeo and Juliet theme into it… sigh
What’s your most recent release? Tell us a little about it... Our most Recent release is an album called “Notorious”, something I am very proud of and love. It came out last Friday.
Got a personal stand out achievement of your band to date? hmm, that’s a hard one, because you could totally end up sounding like a cock if you answered this question a certain way, I don’t know really we have seemed to stick around for a while whilst all the haters hated and the shit talkers talked, and I guess just kept the ball rolling through all the touring and constant living out of each others pockets! So I guess that is an achievement in itself.

What was your first introduction to music that made you think seriously about playing it? Well I started out as a drummer playing in a few bands prior to Buried In Verona and i guess i got ok at that instrument so i moved onto guitar just to try something different. My Uncle’s were very musical and i guess they have had an influence over my choice to play!
Any particular band / album or song that you personally credit as a major influence? Umm for me personally i draw influence not just from one artist or band, subconsciously we all take an influence from something, i think it is a huge part of being a musician to take in emotion/feel from any band weather it is good or bad.
Your first band name, and what style did you play? The first band I played in was called Swarm. Funnily enough the singer from that band is in my current band haha!
Most prized music related item you own? I’m not really a collector of anything really. I’m guessing it would be my Gibson Les Paul Custom. I got that guitar as a replacement when my house got broken into and had all of my gear stolen, so yeah i’m down on my prized possessions at the moment.
When you’re not doing band related stuff, what are you usually found doing? Well, I think I am either sleeping or at the beach… We have been so busy this year and it’s awesome to have time for yourself when you get back from touring. It gets a bit much on the road with the boys non stop.
The thing you most look forward to just before a tour is… Sleep, you always need a shitload of sleep and need to be well fed for the grueling situations we are put in on tour!
The thing you least look forward to before a tour is… Packing up all the gear into the bus!! Fuck I hate it so much. Oh and saying bye to your mates while they are all having fun at home with the boys haha.

When on offer, what’s your one must have item on the rider? Socks and Underwear is a must! Wo has time to go buy that shit while travelling, apart from that it would be Carlton Draught & lots of bottled water
Favourite place you’ve toured… and why? Germany! because Germany is insane.
Most memorable show you’ve played? and why? That’s a hard one. I don’t really have an answer for that, there has not been a massive stand out memorable show yet for me I think.
Got a favourite song to play live? ‘Perceptions’. It’s a brand new one off the album.
Any embarrassing on stage moments come to mind? I fall over a lot so it’s normal, I would have to be naked… really naked on a cold day.
Any pre-show rituals? Yeah… “Hey boys, don’t fuck it up… have a good show” haha
What do you find is the hardest aspect of touring in a band today? As we are not millionaires we find ourselves in shitty hotels or on random peoples floors… the tour busses are shit. we have six dudes in this band and usually travel with two extra so it’s cramped as fuck all the time.

Last song you listened to? Frank Ocean – Swim Good
Last album you acquired? The Bride – President Rd
Which band or album is currently on high rotation? Dr Dre – The Chronic
Tell us an up and coming band or artist you think we should go and listen to right now? Resist The Though or The Bride.
What’s on the cards for the next few months for the band? Touring… Touring… Touring the release of this album! so fucking excited!

You can pick any one album for your band to cover in full, what would it be and why? Any Bon Jovi album because we all love Bon Jovi.
You can pick any one band / artist to cover one of your albums in full, what would it be, and why? I would pick This Will Destroy You.
One band you wish you were able to see live but never had the chance? Led Zeppelin
One venue you have yet to play that you would love to? Sydney Entertainment Centre
The chance comes up to fill in for a member of a band for one tour, which band would it be, and why? I would want to fill in for the drummer of AC/DC, easy as shit, imagine that!
A headline tour overseas comes up, tell us two bands you’d take along to support your band. The Bride and Resist The Thought.

Got any final words? We have just released a new album called ‘Notorious’. Everyone needs to go buy this album!!!! I have never been more excited on something in my life! Go check it out.
