Take a step back to an era of cocktails and kitsch finger food and when platters that matter ruled the airwaves. Reggae Got Soul is celebrating its first anniversary in the Great Northern Hotel’s new tiki bar, the first of its kind in Newcastle. In the tradition of a bygone musical era, it will be a party like you’ve never experienced. Reggae Got Soul is a musical trip to another time and another place – the sound of black America as it changed from blues via rock ‘n’ roll into soul. The Soul Shakedown DJs will get the party started with the best selection of vintage reggae, soul, funk, R&B, rocksteady and traditional ska, all on vinyl 45s and 33s. As well as the usual DJs, Agent Double-O-Soul is coming across from WA to do a set. On the night there’ll be finger food, genuine 1950′s cocktails, Sailor Jerry Rum and even a case of Red Stripe all the way from Jamaica. As well as enjoying the atmosphere and music that the time had to offer, there will be prizes for the best hairstyle and best dressed in vintage 50s & 60s style. It all happens Friday November 18th from 8 ’til late. Entry is free. For more info, head [Here].
