Following the release of their debut single, ‘Do It Right Margo‘ in late 2017, Melbourne trio, MOD CON return with their second single, ‘Neighbourhood‘, and accompanying remix by friend, Jacky Winter.

Neighbourhood‘ continues with themes of introspection and menace, this time, striking our own backyard. While Sara Retallick’s ascetic bass underpins the track’s rhythmic urgency, Erica Dunn’s dual guitar/vocal contemplates the effects of monoculture and apathy.

Upon the imagery of manicured lawns and the smell of BBQ on the breeze, the band examines the “chilling ease with which mainstream Australia ignores its Indigenous history,” explains Dunn. With its anti-chorus structure, the song is punctuated by instrumental breaks that increase in urgency with each verse as does the echo of the fundamental question: “is it right, is it good in your neighbourhood?

When asked to choose someone to remix ‘Neighbourhood‘ the band instantly thought of Melbourne’s Jacky Winter; a project that is a unique amalgam of analogue electronic and rock’n’roll credentials. The remix is primarily inspired by dance floor minimalists E.S.G. and highlights Solier’s new-wave drum pattern and the gnarliest elements of the guitar and bass from the original single.

Stay tuned for a stream of the remix.

MOD CON launch ‘Neighbourhood‘ at The Grace Darling on Sunday February 18th with friends, Jacky Winter & Eat Man. Details [Here].
