News Bits & Pieces

UNDER THE CUT RELEASE NEW SINGLE
Under the Cut is a Melbourne based band influenced by both post punk and new wave. Despite only forming in 2016 from members of Coerce & Identity Theft, the band has released a well received 7″, a full length record, and have played with bands such as Mere Woman, Horror My Friend and Bodyjar. Drawing on diverse influences from acts such as Joy Division and Fugazi the members are no strangers to the live scene, all of them having played in various well regarded Melbourne based punk and hardcore bands.

Vocalist Chris Dee’s drawling vocal style is all the more unique when his lyrical content is examined. As an openly gay person in the punk scene his lyrical content is refreshing, exploring themes unique to his sexuality while also holding a universal appeal.

The first single, ‘Precisely Calculated‘ from a forthcoming EP has been released today with an accompanying video.

Recorded by Sam Johnson (The Smith St Band, Camp Cope), and mastered by Mikey Young, the new release will be launched live at the Riffbear Records label launch on 20th January at The Old Bar in Melbourne.

SOMOS RETURN WITH NEW SINGLE
Following a return from hiatus earlier this year, Somos are back with their second single, ‘Permanently Lost‘. The track is a follow up to ‘Strangers On The Train‘, their first release post-break.

‘Permanently Lost’ was the first song we wrote following our hiatus in late 2016. Phil sent me a loop, and I was immediately taken in by how punchy and dark it was. The next day, I was tracking vocals on it. It just clicked, and felt like we had re-established our songwriting connection. We are very proud to share- play it loud.

Formed in Boston, MA in 2012, Somos consists of Michael Fiorentino (vocals/bass), Phil Haggerty (guitar), Justin Hahn (guitar), and Mike Benoit (drums). They released their debut album ‘Temple of Plenty‘ in 2014.

Listen to the new song below.

THE JACKS – ‘SHE’S A MYSTERY’ VIDEO CLIP
Heavily influenced by the British Invasion of the 1960s and 70s, Southern California four piece The Jacks have just released a video clip for their single, ‘She’s A Mystery‘.

From their live shows to their recording techniques, they keep integrity to who they are and how they believe their music should sound. The 4-piece doesn’t hide behind auto-tune, click tracks, or backing tracks, what you hear is what you get.

Expect more new music from the band shortly. In the meantime, take a look at the video clip below.

THE DARKNESS RELEASE NEW VIDEO CLIP
The Darkness have released the video for their new single, ‘Happiness‘.

The song is taken from the recently released album ‘Pinewood Smile‘, out now through Cooking Vinyl.

Happiness‘ is a deliriously feel-good anthem which finds The Darkness embracing the romance of a glorious love song. The video is a spectacular piece of animation featuring Justin, Dan, Frankie and Rufus in a surreal underwater playground of mermaids, octopuses, speedos, seahorses and, erm, tigers.

Regarding the single Justin says,

‘Happiness’ is about seeing only the golden sand and overlooking the broken glass. Hearing the waves crash and filtering out the grotesque cries of mating gulls. Smelling the distant odour of fresh chips and ignoring the stench of nearby dog shit. Happiness is a choice. Choose The Darkness.

Watch it below.
