Tasmanian band ISLA KA are one of the many acts set to take to the stage at this weekend’s sold out ‘Til The Wheels Fall Off fest in Launceston, and ahead of the performance, have released their new single ‘Sand Castles‘.

The band is fronted by vocalist / guitarist Frankie Andrew, who’s been a regular in the music scene for some years now in various incarnations. She is joined by Mary Shannon on bass and Yasmin Pauna Reece on drums.

Andrew has a quiet, unassuming demeanour that gives way to a relaxed warmth and a voice that packs a punch. She is often praised for her lyrical finesse and honest, heartfelt deliverance. It was late 2014 with her third release, a digital three track effort where the change to ISLA KA was made.

It was recorded in Melbourne which was home for 5 years (the previous two were released in 2010 & 2012 under Frankie Andrew), and since then they have been experimenting with nylon and electrics, and more recently begun recording with the new line-up for a future album release planned for 2018.

The debut band single, ‘Sand Castles‘, was recorded and mixed by Jamie Stacey in Launceston, produced by Frankie Andrew and Jamie Stacey, and mastered by Carl Saff based in Chicago, Illinois.

The track features lush electric and nylon acoustic guitars intertwining throughout, delicate harmonies and a driving pop rhythm.

Give it a listen below.

ISLA KA has played a number of festivals since being based back in Tasmania, including Junction Arts Festival, Festival of Voices, Marion Bay Falls Festival, Party in the Paddock, and will be playing their first full band show with the new line up at this year’s Til the Wheels Fall Off tomorrow night alongside Camp Cope, Bad//Dreems, IV League and Dear Seattle. If you have a ticket, be sure to get in early and take a look.

You can also catch them on Saturday 21st October at Fiesta on George & The Royal Oak Hotel, both in Launceston, and in the new year they have a slot at Festivale at City Park in Launceston on 3rd February. Keep an eye out for more dates and information on the forthcoming album.
