News Bits & Pieces

DIRECT HIT RE-ISSUE ‘DOMESPLITTER’ THIS WEEK
Fat Wreck will be re-issuing Direct Hit’s debut album ‘Domesplitter‘ this Friday.

Front-man Nick Woods gives you the rundown:
Domesplitter is the first full-length album we put out. It’s an ‘album’ in the sense that it runs for about a half hour, but really it’s just a compilation of 10 tunes we’d already posted on the internet in the couple years leading up to its original release. The handful of people who knew and cared about our band at the time picked the tracklist out by voting on these slips of paper we mailed with SASEs before we’d even put out a real record. So really, this wasn’t even ‘original’’ when it first came out, which makes it pretty fucking derivative now. But if you’re looking for wholly pioneering and groundbreaking punk rock from DH at this point, something’s probably wrong with your brain. Either way, after we signed up with FAT a lot of people started asking us if we’d ever put these tunes back on vinyl again. So that’s what we’re doing here. I still think a lot of these songs hold up. The rest make for great embarrassment fodder when we’re onstage. Show how cool you are by yelling ‘Living Dead’ at us instead of ‘Free Bird’. We will never play it.

THE SCANDALS TO RELEASE NEW EP THIS MONTH
New Jersey punk band The Scandals will be releasing their new EP ‘Lucky Seven‘ on April 28th via Panic State / Say-10 Records.

It was recorded at Red Bull Studios, NYC and produced by Brian Fallon of The Gaslight Anthem. The Scandals frontman Jared Hart also plays in Fallon’s other project The Horrible Crowes.

The Scandals have toured with The Gaslight Anthem, The Falcon, TSOL and many others. They’ve also performed at Bamboozle, Skate & Surf, Punk Rock Bowling among other festivals. Their 2012 EP ‘Trenchknife‘ was recorded with Pete Steinkopf of The Bouncing Souls.

Listen to ‘Hostage‘ from the new release below.

Frontman Jared Hart says;

Hostage is a song I had been meaning to write for a very long time. It takes place in the communities and streets that we all know. It’s about a person in isolation due to a past or a present that you will never know. It’s about thinking about that person and wondering if anyone else in the world is thinking about them. It’s about wondering how the hell they made it this far. It’s about putting yourself in their shoes and asking if there’s anything you can do. It’s about neighbors and how we’ll never truly know the experiences of the person that can live so close to you. It can be about any one of us.

GOD DETHRONED – ‘ON THE WRONG SIDE OF THE WIRE’
On May 5th, Dutch death metallers God Dethroned will release their new album, ‘The World Ablaze‘ via Metal Blade Records.

You can hear the first single, ‘On the Wrong Side of the Wire‘ below. Physical pre-orders can be had [Here], Digital [Here].

The band comments;

‘The World Ablaze’ is our final album in the WWI trilogy. We aimed to create an album that is very dynamic and diverse. It contains typical GD riffing with loads of melodies and catchy hooks. The songs are perfect for our live shows as they contain many mid-tempo parts combined with faster and more brutal parts. Diversity to the max! Dan Swano mixed the album in his typical fashion but without robbing the band of its own identity. Mastering was handled at the Wisseloord Studios where they also mastered albums for bands like Rammstein, among many others, and they put the icing on the cake. The album sounds crystal clear and heavy as fuck at the same time.
