It
was sometime in early 1999 when i decided to start a website dedicated
to punk bands after noticing that there really wasn't anything out
there aside from the weekly street press. When it started i must
say the design was quite shocking on the eyes (neon colours) and
the content was pretty lacking, changing bits and pieces all over
the place until a few regular sections came about, a few which still
exist and a few which have hit the scrapheap. While I do all the
stuff you see there is alot of behind the scenes work that goes
on, we have many people who help out by regularly submitting news,
gig dates and information that keeps the site fresh. While over
the years the site has grown beyond all expecatations it has also
grown to accomodate for a wider range of music styles and we cover
just about anything from rock to metal, folk & soul to punk
and anything in between while keeping a main focus on the alternative
genre. We've organised many live shows under the 'Bombshell Presents'
banner and early on in the picture we held a series of shows called
'Bombshell Blitz' all of which were highly successful. Now ten years
on, and still going strong I believe the whole reason we are still
kicking is because it's all just still a hobby, there's no stress
of running a business, no need for a constant cash flow which also
makes the site accessible to all artists regardless of your size,
we're not dominated by those with advertising budgets, whatever
your budget, we'll find a way to work with you, and unlike alot
of publications, we don't have that "sure we'll cover you,
if you buy ads" attitude. We're independant and will remain
that way, for hopefully another ten years!
So.... The
FAQ answered.
Where did the name Bombshell come
from?
Operation Ivy song 'Bombshell' check it out. [www.operationivy.com]
I'm in a band and I want to be featured
on Bombshell, what do I have to do?
Most of the time we track down the bands we feature after seeing
them or hearing about them or hearing their music and enjoying it,
by all means email us or send in your cd, if we think it's relative
to our audience, we'll be in touch.
I'm in a band and I want our cd reviewed
on Bombshell, what do I have to do?
Sure thing post along your cd with a bio and we will give it a listen
and do our best to review it on the site, at times we have a heap
to get through so it may not appear instantly, but we will do our
best to get it on the site. If your singer screams like a dying
cat or your one of these bands who spends more time on your fringe
and starving yourself to fit into your girlfriends jeans, please
save yourself the hassle, we have enough coasters. We're predominantly
a punk site, so bad pop, extreme metal etc is probably best saved
for someone else.
How do I advertise on Bombshell?
Send an email to shellyatbombshellzine.com and outline what you
are interested in advertising, we offer weekly, fortnightly or monthly
or even flat rate advertising packages at the cheapest rates you
will find, we also offer contra deals on select positions and also
long term packages all at negotiable and affordable rates cheaper
than any street press or any website that attracts the same amount
of hits. Make sure you get in early though most sections are booked
well in advance.
How do i get my gig in the gig guide?
See that link that says 'Submit A Gig' on the gig
guide page? use that, and make sure you read the instructions on
how to submit.
I submitted a gig and it's not there?
Give us a few days before you ask, if you didn't
fill it out right don't complain if it doesn't appear, we don't
have the time to mail you to tell you you submitted it wrong so
take a few seconds to read it and you'll have no dramas. Oh and
make sure the gig is relevant, it is a rock/punk/hardcore gig guide,
not blues or cover bands (unless your in the Gimme Gimmes).
Can I do work experience at Bombshell?
Nope sorry, Bombshell is a hobby that takes up more
hours than a hobby should, this isn't my full time job, nor is it
a business, it's something that started out as an experiment that
got out of hand and grew into a time consuming hobby, but it's still
great fun, so while you cannot do work experience here you are always
free to submit news, reviews, interviews and stuff like that, if
we like it we may be able to offer you a regular gig.
I saw/heard a band on Bombshell and
I want to know more about them can you help?
For sure, while most features etc have a link to bands website etc
we'd be more than happy to point you at the right direction, just
email me infoatbombshellzine.com and i'll try to help you out.
Can you get me into so and so's show
for free?
Nope, unless it's in a competition we aint getting you into anything,
especially if its a bill of local bands, how 'bout you pay the admission
and support them, they need your support.
When is so and so coming out to tour,
my friend reckons they heard this of a friend of a friends best
mate, is it true?
If we know about it, it will either be on the news page or the gig
guide, if it's not, well then it could be rubbish or it's in the
works, just hold your horses and wait for an announcement, we'll
tell you when we know. Can't hurt you to check out the bands website
either.
Why isn't so and so playing in our
town or state?
I'm sure there is a good reason, look on the ad
and see who's promoting the show, find their website and email them,
i'm sure they will tell you why.
What's the best way to contact you?
infoatbombshellzine.com email is the quickest method,
sometimes i'm slow on the replies so if you don't get one, keep
hounding.
Where can i send stuff?
Send it to Bombshellzine.com - Po Box 8032, Werrington
County, NSW, 2747, Australia.
If you are sending internationally, especially from the USA it's
probably not best to address it "Att: Bomber", unless
you want it opened multiple times by customs and often mega delayed
in it's delivery. |
